 My Week

Another relatively quiet week, punctuated by several trips to town and one to the vet. I had my physical therapy evaluation, and we’re waiting for our insurance to give the go-ahead. On Friday, I took Tasha to the vet, and the news wasn’t good. The original lesion (tumor) under her tongue doesn’t look too bad — still there, but not inflamed. But in the space of just over a month, a second lesion has sprung up and become quite inflamed. This one is below the molars on the outer side, against her cheek, and clearly has been bothering her — she has been complaining more and eating less. The vet injected the usual steroids to try to calm the inflammation, and we’ll just have to see how it goes.

What I’m Reading/Watching

What I’m Reading: I finished rereading the Three Sisters trilogy by Nora Roberts, a series I always enjoy. I also read A Murder for the Books (Victoria Gilbert) (review), which I realized I had as an ARC and had never read. (Oh, well, I can count it toward the Blogger Shame challenge.) It was just as good as the second book (review), which I read last week and reviewed this week.  And I read Vision in White, a Nora Roberts romance that I hadn’t read before. It’s the start of a quartet; I plan to read the others as I can fit them in. I’m still slowly working my way  through Year of Wonder: Classical Music for Every Day (ARC.)

I finally finished listening to: The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley, which I absolutely loved! So naturally, I plunged right into another Susanna Kearsley book, The Shadowy Horses, and I’ve been devouring it. I’m nearly half-way through already, thanks to several commutes to town as well as some knitting and spinning sessions.

Watching: Kenneth Brannagh’s Murder on the Orient Express. I enjoyed it, with reservations. I’m working on a short review. We also watched an episode of Father Brown, and rewatched the first episode of the Inspector Alleyn Mysteries, “A Man Lay Dead.”

      Yes, they’re not uncommon. But so miserable for the poor kitties! The steroid shots seem to be helping decrease the associated inflammation and make her more comfortable, at least for the time being.

    Hope things improve with your fur baby soon. I can imagine her discomfort and your worry while it’s resolved. Give me a quite week any day. (lol) I read Vision in White and really enjoyed it. Hugs and Happy Sunday! RO

      Ultimately, there’s nothing we can do; she has cancer, and eventually the steroids won’t help. But for now, they seem to be helping. Thanks for stopping by, and for the hugs — I needed them!

    Oh that sounds rough for Tasha! I hope the steroids help and she doesn’t get any worse. Poor thing…

    I liked Branagh’s Orient Express too, for the most part. I’ll enjoy seeing your thoughts on it. And I hope the Nancy Drew comic is good! Nice that she’s still around along with the classic editions…

      Thanks, Greg! The shots seem to be helping some, at least in the short term. She’s eating better this week, and complaining less.

      Thak you, Aj. She’s eating better this last day or two, which is a hopeful sign. But it’s cancer, so it’s not going to go away. It’s just a question of how long we can keep her happy and comfortable.

    It is so difficult when pets have issues. I feel fortunate that our 16yo miniature poodle has had no issues other than going blind and somewhat deaf. She eats well, sleeps quite a bit though.

    I love seeing all your books. I look forward to the Naomi Novik report. I listened to Spinning Silver last week on the road trip and LOVED it.

      I’m glad your dog is doing fine, other than her vision and hearing. Tasha is doing pretty well other than her mouth. Well, her sight isn’t what it was, and she’s not as physically active, but she seems happy enough when her mouth isn’t actively troubling her. Luckily, the shots seem to be calming things down at least a little; she’s eating better and complaining less this week.

    I really enjoyed that Nora Roberts quartet though I know someone who felt that book #2 and book #3 were too similar. I love that Nora Roberts trilogy – especially the first book and need to reread it. Hopefully Tasha’s mouth will feel better and the steroid shot will work its magic. I hope you’re having a great week!

      I started the second book and couldn’t get into it, but I think I just wasn’t in the right mood. I’ll try again later.

      Tasha seems to be feeling a little better, thank goodness. She’s eating and not complaining as much.

    🙁 I’m so sorry about what’s happening with your kitty. I’m sure I mentioned that we lost one of our gorgeous girls at Christmas due to a tumour in the mouth and it’s devastating… Heartbroken for you.
    Fingers crossed the jabs help your girl have good quality time.

      Thank you, Nicci. I’m so sorry you lost your kitty. It’s so hard! We lost our Thomas to the same disease just over a year ago. We’ve been really fortunate with Tasha: she was diagnosed about two and a half years ago, and until now, the steroids kept the inflammation at bay, and the cancer itself wasn’t spreading. So she’s had over two years of pretty good quality time. Not perfect, since she has had some discomfort on and off, but she has seemed pretty happy on the whole, and we’re grateful for the extra time.

      Thank you, Lola. Tasha is doing a bit better since the shots. We’ll just see how it goes.

      I know what you mean about getting into a cozy mood. Before I started blogging, I was very much a genre-binger. Nothing but fantasy for months, then nothing but mystery, then months of romance books… Now I tend to mix it up a lot more, but I still tend to favor one genre over another for several weeks or months, even if I mix a few other books in.
