January 21, 2018 Sunday Post 17

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

 My Week

I made a New Year’s resolution to eat more healthfully and exercise more, in hopes of improving my overall health and energy and losing some of the weight I’ve gained in the last several years. I didn’t get off to a great start, but this week I’ve finally started making some progress on both fronts. I got out for a brisk walk twice, and started making better choices about what I eat.  I hope I can stick to it; my track record isn’t great, to be honest.

Indexing… goes along; I’ll be working over the weekend. My current knitting project, a cap-sleeve sweater for a friend who is expecting a baby, is about 75% done. And I finally managed to get a review written and posted this week, so yay me!

The Backlist Reader Challenge

The sign-up linky for The Backlist Reader Challenge 2018 is live, and the challenge has begun! (Don’t worry, you can sign up anytime before December 2018.)

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I haven’t been reading as much as I’d like this month, and I’m already behind on my Goodreads challenge and my Backlist Reader goals, but I did better this week. I finished A Treacherous Curse (Deanna Raybourn, ARC), which was just as good as I’d hoped. I was approved for Robyn Carr’s The Family Gathering this week, and I, um… well, I may have broken my reading schedule (such as it is) to plunge right into it. I finished it up in a single day. I reread Death and the Gravedigger’s Angel, which I neglected to review last year, so I can finally review it and because I’ve got the new one coming up. Now I’m reading The Problim Children (Natalie Lloyd; ARC) and A Scandal in Battersea (Mercedes Lackey; library.)

Listening to: Still listening to Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix; I’m nearly half-way done.

Watching: Father Brown (season 5) and a few episodes of The Agatha Christie Hour, specifically “The Girl in the Train” and “The Case of the Discontented Soldier.”

The weather here has not made it easy to do any sort of outdoor exercise, but it seems like maybe a warm-up is coming, so hopefully we can do some stuff.

  2. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

I’ve been trying to do better on my food choices and exercise. I’ve been trying to stick with a yoga program from Yoga with Adriene on YouTube and I’m liking it so far. Making better eating choices is not going quite as well! I’m just about to start A Curious Beginning by Deanna Raybourn as the whole Veronica Speedwell series sounds amazing. I enjoyed Death and the Gravedigger’s Angel and am really looking forward to the next one. It’s a series I really enjoy. Have a great week!

I’ll try to check out that yoga program, as I could definitely do with some stretching and strengthening. It’s a little complicated to get YouTube onto our TV but it might be worth it. I have a yoga DVD I plan to try, as well.

Enjoy the Veronica Speedwell series! I love Veronica’s wit.

I hope your indexing this weekend went well. And yay for sticking to your goals for heating healthy and eating well! I’m not doing so well on that front, I’m afraid. I look forward to reading A Treacherous Curse–I just need to get to the first book in the series first! Have a great week, Lark!

Oh, the new Robyn Carr– I love her books, especially the Thunder Point series. I did read the first in this CO series last year so need to pick this up.
I don’t like to make long-term plans and get frustrated, but my grown daughter and I are doing a buddy-system thing to eat healthier and encourage each other. Believe me, after awhile people roll their eyes when someone exercising/eating healthier/dieting talks about it constantly 🙂 Anyway I’m going for actual health and less inflammation (have arthritis) over losing a bunch of weight.

Good luck to you, and kudos for giving it a try again. Seems like you had a busy week, but knitting and reading, that part sounds fun!

I do want to lose some weight, but I’m equally concerned with overall health and, as you say, inflammation (autoimmune disease.) That’s great that you’re teaming with your daughter. So good luck to all three of us!

I’m hoping to eat more healthily and exercise more, too. So far I haven’t done great this year, but haven’t backslid either. Glad to hear that you’ve made progress!

I am aiming to do the same things this year, on the heels of my diabetes diagnosis right before Christmas. If I can drop 15 pounds that will be great. I am trying to make small adjustments so that I don’t slide backwards.

Good luck getting a little more reviewing done this week! 🙂
