My Week
I split the week between trips to town for PT and the last of my regular checkups, working on music for my choruses, and doing some blogging and spinning. It’s been nice to have time for the creative stuff, but I have a new indexing project with a short deadline coming Monday, so things are about to get very busy for the next few weeks.
Yesterday, Mr. Bookwyrm and I went to the Fall Fiber Festival and Montpelier Sheepdog Trials, which is always a lot of fun. I spent so much time talking with other spinners and knitters and roaming the vendor tents that I never had a chance to watch the sheepdogs, but Mr. Bookwyrm took photos. I bought some gorgeous fluffy fiber for spinning, and two sets of yarn for shawls.

Blog Ahead Challenge update
I’ve written 1 post for the Blog Ahead challenge… a lot fewer than I had hoped.
What I’m Reading/Watching
Reading: I received an ARC of Jayne Ann Krentz’s Untouchable this week, and I couldn’t resist—I dived straight in and finished it in a night. I’m rereading The Unlikely Ones by Mary Brown, a fantasy novel I loved when I read it almost 30 years ago. It’s still good, and the prose is often lovely. And I’ve started two ARCs: The Bartered Brides (Mercedes Lackey) and Not Quite Over You (Susan Mallery). The Lackey turned out to be a bit gruesome for reading in bed, at least in the chapter I reached the other night, so I grabbed the Mallery, figuring a nice cheerful romance would be a good antidote.
In ongoing books, I really need to get back to The Underwater Ballroom (anthology; ARC), and I haven’t looked at Year of Wonder: Classical Music for Every Day at all this week.
Listening to: I finished The Firebird by Susanna Kearsley, which I loved. I hadn’t realized there was a whole community of Jacobites in 18th-century St. Petersburg, so it opened up a bit of history I’ve never encountered before. Now I am listening to The Calculating Stars, which is written and narrated by Mary Robinette Kowal. It’s wonderful… but the first several chapters will chill your blood and wrench your heart, especially if you live on the East Coast.
Watching: Swallows and Amazons (BBC movie, on DVD), and several episodes of Cadfael, “The Holy Thief,” “The Sanctuary Sparrow,” “Monk’s Hood,” and “The Virgin in the Ice.” An episode per night is as close as Mr. Bookwyrm and I usually come to binge-watching! For some reason, I was really stressed out on Friday evening, so I watched a Miss Marple mystery while spinning my latest project.

It really was fun! I saw a great knitted dragon that I want to make. (You can see him on my Instagram.) Also, thank goodness the deadline for the index has been extended by a few days, but it’s still going to be a slog.

Sounds like you picked up some great books! And thanks for the reminder that I need to keep my eye on the Kindle deals. I always forget to check. (Then again, I often forget to read my Kindle books, so I guess it’s not too big a surprise.)

I forget to read mine, too. And some I buy not because I want to read them now, but because I’ve read them and enjoyed them in the past, and would like to have them available for my Kindle for rereading… so I grab them when they go on sale. Amazon sends me a daily email about the Kindle deals, and I’ve subscribed to BookBub and eReaderIQ to get alerts when specific authors’ books go on sale. Otherwise, I would forget to check, too!

I didn’t actually finish very many books last week—just two, Untouchable and The Firebird (and I’ve been listening to The Firebird since July!) But I’m in the middle of a whole bunch of books.

PT is going pretty well so far. The Firebird was wonderful; I really recommend it—but read The Winter Sea first, if you haven’t already. And have a lovely week!
