November 26, 2017 Sunday Post 12

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

 My Week

Last Sunday’s concert was wonderful! I was very proud of my young singers, especially the Youth chorus (teens, with a few adult mentors), who had a beautiful blend and performed wonderfully, even on their two long and challenging pieces. And it’s always a joy to sing in the adult chorus. We’re blessed with a wonderful director who really inspires us.

The rest of the week was less fun. I woke up Monday with a sore throat; by mid-week it had moved into my sinuses and upper chest. It’s just a bad cold, but given how tired I was to begin with, it has really wiped me out… so much so that we called off the Thanksgiving-dinner-for-two we had planned, and just spent the day resting. All I really wanted to eat was soup or eggs, anyway.

Unfortunately, being sick all week has put me behind on pretty much everything, from work to laundry to the blog. On the plus side, though, Mr. Bookwyrm was able to change our day-after-Thanksgiving Mary Poppins tickets to later this week, when hopefully I’ll be feeling better.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: As I often do when I’m not feeling well, I binge-read this week, or rather reread. This time, since I had just read the ARC of Robin D. Owens’s Heart Sight, I decided to reread her “Celta” fantasy romance series. I didn’t include all the covers above, but I reread the first eight books this week, beginning with Heartmate. Then I read book 9, Heart Journey, for the first time. (I hate the cover for that one; it doesn’t match the book well at all.) And I started book 10, Heart Search. I plan to get back to Terminal Alliance (Jim C. Hines; ARC) once I feel better, but A Scandal in Battersea (Mercedes Lackey) had to go back to the library before I finished it. I’ll try to borrow it from the library in my parents’ town over Christmas break, since the hold list at my library is still pretty long.

Listening to: Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. I’m nearly done. I’ve been knitting while listening, and my nephew’s scarf is nearly done as well. (“How long did it take you to knit that?” “Oh, about 36 chapters of Harry Potter…”*)

*Not really, though. I did other things while listening to the book, and sometimes I knit while watching TV. But timewise, it probably works out about the same.

Watching:   Star Trek: Discovery and Father Brown.

Amen to that! I think I’m finally starting to improve. I’m no longer coughing every few minutes, which is a relief to my throat as well as my upper abdominal muscles.

Hope you are feeling better! When you do, dive right into Amanda Bouchet’s trilogy – The Kingmaker Chronicles. OMG, Promise of Fire and Breath of Fire are so good. You will be kicking yourself for not reading them sooner. Luckily the third one Heart on Fire comes out in January so you won’t have too long to wait to read the stunning conclusion.

So great that the concert was a success! Congratulations! Sorry to hear you ended up sick, though. 🙁 Hope you are feeling better by now. I caught some of the Goblet of Fire on TV over the weekend. Though I was not knitting while watching as you do with listening. 🙂 Lots of new additions this week! Always exciting to add to the collection.

Oh I’m sorry to hear you’ve been sick. I know when I start burning the candle at both ends that a cold of some sort will show up so maybe it was that? I’m glad it waited till after your concert. And that’s wonderful that you were able to move your Mary Poppins tickets. We just watched Saving Mr. Banks and really enjoyed it. By all accounts P.L. Travers was not a nice woman but it did make me want to watch Mary Poppins again! Have a great week and get some rest!

I’m so sorry you’re under the weather! How great that your tickets could be changed out for another date! I feel like that’s almost unheard of today. I hope you start feeling better and get back on track with life.
