Sunday Post – 11/06/16

November 6, 2016 Sunday Post 14

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures — I mean books!

My Week

I hope you all had a wonderful Halloween and/or Day of the Dead and/or All Saints celebration! I put out our usual decorations, and we carved a jack-o-lantern for the front porch, but this year I decided to augment the holiday theme with books.

Remember all those weeks I was working practically around the clock? Yeah, well… I ended up paying for it this week, by getting sick midweek. So much for my plans for catching up on posts and getting ahead on my next indexing project! Instead, I spent several days either in bed or on the couch. At least I got a lot of reading done, even if it was all re-reading. I’m still pretty congested today, but I think the worst is over. Hopefully I’ll be able to make it to rehearsal today; if not, our accompanist is amazing, and she will cover for me.

Challenges

The Blog Ahead Challenge  is over. My goal was to get 15 posts “ahead” by then, but I only managed 7 posts. Still, it’s a start!

The HoHoHo Read-A-Thon starts this week. My goal is to read at least 2 holiday-themed books and listen to one audiobook (A Christmas Carol.) I’m also hosting one of the challenges, so if you like holiday books and jigsaw puzzles, I hope you’ll check it out!

What I’m Reading/Watching

I’m finished rereading A Discovery of Witches for the Real-Time Read-Along on Oct. 31, and immediately plunged into Shadow of Night, followed by The Book of Life. I don’t think I’ll do the real-time read-along thing next year; it’s too frustrating to stop after a chapter or two. Plus, I finished up the Mage Storms trilogy by Mercedes Lackey (also a re-read.) I probably shouldn’t have done that much reading with a headache, but to be honest, it was about all I was good for.

Since I was finally feeling a little better yesterday, I headed back into the new-to-me books I had started in October.  I’m now most of the way through The Hammer of Thor (Rick Riordan; purchased), which on the whole I’m really enjoying. Maybe this coming week I can finish The Inheritance (Charles Finch; ARC) and Shades of Milk and Honey (Mary Robinette Kowal; purchased.)

I did get back to listening to Made in America by Bill Bryson, but only on Monday while I got the house ready for trick-or-treaters. We started our annual Harry Potter re-watch before Halloween, but didn’t get very far, because Mr. Bookwyrm has been working late — so far we’ve only watched the first three movies. We did manage to see Hallowe’en Party, a Poirot mystery, on Nov. 1.  I was saving it for Halloween, but we ended up watching it the following night.

For Review or Review Consideration

Thank you, Kensington Books!

Purchased for Kindle

All four of these were on sale. I’ve read Murder in the Queen’s Armes but I’m replacing that series with Kindle as I can, because the print in a lot of my paperbacks is looking a bit small these days.

Have a great week, and happy reading!

Thank you, Bea! I hope to continue to add a few “extra” posts per week until I’ve gotten at least several weeks ahead. But I’ve also got a lot of work to do this week, since I wasn’t really able to work much last week.

No! Everyone is getting sick, stop that! I hope you rested up enough that you’ll be feeling much better this week. I think reading the discovery of witches the way you did would be cool, but also frustrating. I really need to continue that series! Oh and I love your decorating with books! What a great idea. Have a great week!

I’m doing enough better that I made it to my rehearsals today, so that’s moving in the right direction. 🙂 It was both fun and frustrating to read ADOW that way; I was relieved to be able to plough through books two and three in a few days of binge-reading. (The silver lining of getting sick, I guess!) Have a great week, and thanks for stopping by, my friend!

I’m feeling a lot better today (Monday) so hopefully I’ll be completely back to normal in a few days — though it will take longer to get my upper range back (for singing.)

Thank you, Kimba! I’m feeling a bit better today (Monday), so things are looking up. I even made it through my rehearsals yesterday — yay!

I love your book centric decorations and am glad to hear that you are feeling better. Whenever I’m not feeling well (either physically or emotionally), I always turn to rereads. I know that I am VERY sick if I can’t read.
