The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures — I mean books!

My Week

The concert is this afternoon! I’m excited. The kids have worked hard, as have the adults (me included), and I’m looking forward to it.  In case you’re new to the blog: I direct two choruses, one for children K-6th and the other for teens 6th-12th. I sing with the adult chorus. All three are under the same umbrella organization, with the goal of singing sacred music and masterworks. The kids’ music is usually more contemporary, but I do try to throw in a few classical works here and there. Anyway, we’ve been working on our joint Autumn Concert since the beginning of October. Working with the kids, singing with the adults… those are always two of the highlights of my week, and the concert is the icing on the cake.

Thanksgiving is this coming week, but before then, I have to finish this index and deliver it to the author. Mr. Bookwyrm has been working very hard also, so we’re planning another quiet Thanksgiving with just the two of us and the cats. But a college friend is stopping by on Saturday, on her way to visit some of her family. I’m looking forward to seeing her, but I have a lot of housecleaning to do before she gets here!

Now that it’s cooler, Thomas is a lot more interested in sitting on my lap, usually when I’m trying to work. He’s such a sweetie, it’s hard to say no.

Challenges

The HoHoHo Read-A-Thon is over. My goal was to read at least 2 holiday-themed books and listen to one audiobook (A Christmas Carol.) I read The Holiday Gift, One Snowy Night, and A Yorkshire Christmas. I only got halfway through the audiobook by the end of the challenge, but I’ve kept going since.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: During the last few days of the HoHoHoRAT, I finished reading  A Yorkshire Christmas (Kate Hewitt; purchased), then returned to The Inheritance (Charles Finch; ARC) and finished that. Then I ploughed through When All the Girls Have Gone (Jayne Ann Krentz; ARC.) I also reread The Body Politic (purchased) by Catherine Aird, one of my favorite traditional British mystery writers.  Currently, I’m reading Tempest (Valdemar anthology; ARC) and hope to squeeze in the last few chapters of Shades of Milk and Honey (Mary Robinette Kowal; purchased) by next weekend.

Listening: I’m about halfway through A Christmas Carol (read by Jim Dale), after which I’ll go back to Made in America.

Watching: We continued our Harry Potter rewatch with The Goblet of Fire, and I already told you about seeing Hamlet. Mr. Bookwyrm has been working late, so we haven’t had much time for movies. But..

On Tuesday, I went with a friend to see the National Theater Live’s encore screening of Hamlet starring Benedict Cumberbatch. They filmed a live performance back in 2015, and are re-broadcasting it in select theaters throughout the US. It was incredible! Not only was Cumberbatch predictably awesome, but almost everyone else’s performances were top-notch as well, and the production design was amazing. As a former theatre major, I tend to view theatre productions with a critical eye, and I was seriously impressed. There are still tickets available in some areas through Nov. 22 or so; click the link to see if it’s showing anywhere near you. It’s really worth seeing.

    Our cats are a lot more cuddly now with the weather change too. How lovely that you direct chorus. I love music, and especially enjoy seeing children blossom with music. I have never had a talent in the area myself, so we had to pay for every musical avenue that our children pursued while homeschooling.
    I have read A Christmas Carol several times, and have watched in every imaginable movie form, but have not listened to it on audio yet. I will have to try that.

    I hope the concert goes well! We’re having a quiet Thanksgiving here as well. We may even go out to eat. I do want to clean the house this week from top to bottom since I’m off work–and before we put up the Christmas decorations this next weekend. We’ll see how helpful my daughter is!

    I’m looking forward to starting on my Christmas reads. I’m getting such a late start this year. I have a feeling all my reviews will come out after Christmas. I’m so behind. 🙁

    My cat is actually behind the computer monitor for once. Usually he prefers to be in front of it, blocking my view. I think he’s enjoying the warmth from the desk lamp.
