My Week

Last Sunday’s concert went well! I’m always very proud of “my kids” and how much joy they bring to the audience when they sing.

I only got to enjoy the post-concert glow for the rest of the evening, however, because Monday morning I had to jump right back into indexing. This project is quite challenging and taking much longer than I anticipated; I even ended up working on Thanksgiving Day. We did cook up a Thanksgiving dinner, though I pretty much kept it to the basics (because of the time crunch): turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, sweet potato casserole, green beans. And pumpkin pie, of course! If you celebrated Thanksgiving, I hope it was happy and free from tension!

Last night, a college friend stopped by on her way to visit her family down South. It was great to see her! We spent the whole evening talking and catching up. She had to leave this morning, but hopefully she will stay with us again next time she visits them.

This week, I’ll be pushing to finish the index and packing for our trip out West. I hope to squeeze in a few reviews, but if I don’t have time, I’ve got one or two in reserve that I can pull out.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: Sunday evening, I relaxed by reading Wild at Whiskey Creek, which I loved! Later in the week, I reread The Blue Sword (my collection); I realize I’ve never properly reviewed it, so I hope to do that this time around. Currently, I’m reading Tempest (Valdemar anthology; ARC) and Lady Claire Is All That (Maya Rodale; ARC), and hope to get back to Shades of Milk and Honey (Mary Robinette Kowal; purchased) by next weekend.

Listening: I finished A Christmas Carol (read by Jim Dale) on Wednesday, so I’m listening to Made in America again.

Watching: We continued our Harry Potter rewatch with The Half-Blood Prince. Between my work and Mr. Bookwyrm’s, there hasn’t been time for much else, but we did watch a documentary about cats on Thanksgiving. I wasn’t planning to see the whole thing, but one of our kitties was so fascinated that we kept watching (and smiling at how riveted he was.)

I had the ARC of The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Magic, but didn’t get to finish it before it expired. I was enjoying it quite a bit, though, so I was delighted to snag a Kindle copy on sale. Fairest, Graceling, and The Children of Hurin are as much for Robin as for me. I’ve wanted to read A Most Curious Murder since reading Katherine’s review at I Wish I Lived in a Library, but my library never got it, so I grabbed that one on sale as well.

    Ah, yes, the concert! Lovely that it all went well. I am sure that you have every reason to be proud of your group.
    Here’s to getting that indexing complete one day soon. It sounds like quite the undertaking.
    I have read the first two in the Lunar Chronicles, and am planning to go on, although I don’t read YA much anymore. I look forward to what you think of Fairest.

    Your Thanksgiving dinner sounds perfect! The favorite basics that I never grow tired of.

    I am eyeing your Backlist Challenge. I did the Read the Books You Buy Challenge this year, which focused on June 2015 on…so I still have some books on my TBR from 2014 and early 2015!

    Sorry you’re busy but you did a good bunch of posts up and I backtracked and read them and commented. I was offline for a few days this week so catching up. You have one of my fave books of recent years above: The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic! I have a hardcover version that I won in a giveaway from the publisher a few years ago and I cherish it. Not sure why, since I don’t read a ton of fantasy, magical realism, etc. but I hope you love it too.

    I’m definitely joining your challenge, so I’ll mark the sign-up date on my calendar to remember. I’m off my stride with blog reading/commenting and need to keep up 🙂

      I started reading The Thinking Woman’s Guide to Real Magic as an ARC, and ran out of time to finish it before I had to post my review. So I wrote the review based on what I’d read (and was upfront about the fact that I was only about half-way through.) By the time I had time to go back to it, the DRM had expired and I couldn’t read it. So I’m really looking forward to starting over and actually finishing it this time!

      I hope you enjoy the challenge! Thanks for the reminder; I need to finish polishing the post.

      Oh, I don’t get to watch — I’m the director! I’m the one in front of them, waving my arms while they sing. 🙂 And they’re only “my kids” because I love them; I have to give them back to their parents at the end of the concert. 🙂

      I hope I enjoy them, too! I loved the rest of the Lunar Chronicles, but I’m always leery of books where the main character is or ends up as a villain, because I know it isn’t going to end well for them (and often for lots of other people, too.) As for Graceling, my daughter Robin loved it, so I expect I’ll like it whenever I get around to it!

    Sorry you couldn’t have Thanksgiving off to yourself, but I’m glad you got to catch up with a good friend! I haven’t seen my best friend in over a year and I can’t wait until she comes to town.
