My Week
It’s been a pretty quiet week, but a good one. My shoulder is doing better; while it still hurts to move in some directions, and I’m being careful about lifting, pushing, or pulling with that arm, I’m not in constant pain anymore, and my range of motion has improved considerably. I turned an index in this week and started on the next one, which looks like it will be quite interesting.
And we seem to be settling in to attending a church about half and hour from here, along with some of the folks from our old church. It’s nice to see familiar faces there, and the former choir members among us have even started an impromptu choir for the Saturday night Mass, which didn’t have music. The priest and the Sunday choir director are happy to have us there, and have been very welcoming.
Today, Mr. Bookwyrm and I will be out and about, looking for a new dryer. Ours has been on its last legs for a while, and now it has decided to start mangling our clothes. It’s almost 25 years old, so I guess it’s time we replaced it!
To all of you who will be watching the Superbowl this evening, enjoy! I’m not sure if we’ll be watching, since we don’t have cable or a Hulu subscription. We might just stream a movie or something instead.

What I’m Reading/Watching
Reading: I set The Problim Children and A Scandal in Battersea aside last week when my shoulder was so painful. I meant to pick them up this week, and I will get back to them soon…Instead, I ended up rereading the Herald Spy trilogy by Mercedes Lackey, a follow-on to last week’s reread of the Collegium Chronicles. Then I started reading Cat of the Baskervilles (Vicki Delany; ARC.) I’m also rereading Lisa Kleypas’s Ravenels series beginning with Cold-Hearted Rake (my review); I want to refresh my memory before plunging into the 4th book, Hello Stranger this coming week.
Listening to: I made a lot of progress on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix; I’m now about 70 percent of the way through.
Watching: Nothing, really.

It’s funny; people seem to either love or hate that cover! I’m glad you like it, but I fall in the latter category. I’ve been interested in historic costume since high school, so the dress drives nuts, because it’s completely wrong for the period. That’s a modern prom or wedding dress style, not a 19th-century ball gown. Fortunately, it’s what is INSIDE the cover that really counts!

Glad to hear you’re doing better with that shoulder. And you found a new church that seems right for you! It is definitely time to replace that dryer. It has lasted a good long time! I’m surprised it had that long of a run. I’ve heard the newer appliances are built to not last as long as they used to. I don’t know if that’s true or not, but your dryer has lasted quite a while!

I’ve heard the same thing. Our old washer lasted a long time, but we finally replaced it about 4 or 5 years ago. Now it’s the dryer’s turn. But I don’t expect the new ones to last as long as the old ones did.

Glad your shoulder is feeling better and hope you found a good deal on a dryer. Older appliances do seem to last much longer than newer ones. We just replaced our stove and fridge in November because I was fearful of their life expectancy. Have a great week – reading and otherwise.

That’s wonderful that you’ve found a new church home. It sounds perfect. I’m glad your shoulder is feeling better though I know it’s a sloooow process. I listened to The Cuckoo’s Calling last month and really enjoyed it though it felt a bit too long. I’m looking forward to reading the next in the series. Have a great week!

I hope your shoulder is feeling completely better, Lark. Were you able to find a dryer? We need to look into a new washer and dryer, but we are hoping ours hold out a while longer. Yes, we found one last Sunday and it was delivered Monday. It’s so nice to have a dryer where the temperature settings actually work, and it isn’t munching little holes in our clothes! We had been hoping to hold out, and in fact, I’d been holding out for the last year or so, but it was getting worse (more frequent munching), and the dryer finally had to be replaced. I certainly know about the one-thing-at-a-time, though. I hope your husband gets his brakes replaced. That’s a lot more important than a dryer!
