February 18, 2018 Sunday Post 30

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

 My Week

I hope you all had a lovely Valentine’s Day and/or Galantine’s Day! My side of the family has always observed Valentine’s Day not just as a celebration of romantic love, but of familial love in general. So in addition to Mr. Bookwyrm and me exchanging cards, we sent cards to Robin and my folks, and called them as well. And Mr. Bookwyrm gave me lovely pink roses…and thoughtfully refrained from bringing chocolate at my request, because I’m really trying to eat healthier, and I’m practically incapable of eating just a little chocolate.

On the blogging side of things, I didn’t get a single post written this week. Hopefully I can do better next week, even though it’s going to be equally busy in terms of work for the next three weeks or so.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: This week, I didn’t read as much as last week. I reread two Valdemar novels by Mercedes Lackey, Exile’s Honor and Exile’s Valor (well, technically I’m not quite finished with the second one yet.) I also read more of  Cat of the Baskervilles (ARC), and finished up a Jill Shalvis novellette, The Good Luck Sister (ARC) that follows Lost and Found Sisters… so now I want to read that book as well. And I still plan to get back to my other interrupted reads:  The Problim Children (ARC) and A Scandal in Batersea (library.)

Listening to: I started Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (again; I’ve both read and listened to it before) and actually got quite a bit of listening done, given my current workload. I’m about a fifth of the way through the book.

Watching: Father Brown season 5, and Star Trek: Discovery, though we are still behind on the latter by about 4 episodes. I’d like to be watching the Olympics, at least the figure skating, but alas, that’s one of the drawbacks of cutting the cord. To stream it, you either have to prove to NBC’s website that you are a cable subscriber (which we aren’t), or else subscribe to Hulu (which we don’t) and watch it there. Oh, well, both of us are working too many late nights to keep up with the Olympics right now, anyway!

Many thanks to Bloomsbury USA Childrens!

Purchased for Kindle

The Eye of the World was this month’s free book from Tor.com’s Book of the Month club. (The free download ended Thursday—sorry!) The last two titles, “The Disastrous Debut of Agatha Tremain” (Stephanie Burgis) and “Sword Sworn” (Mercedes Lackey) are short stories. “Sword Sworn,” is a prequel to Lackey’s Vows and Honor series; I’ve read it, in the original Sword and Sorcery anthology in which it appeared, but didn’t own a copy.

Have a good week, and happy reading!

Beautiful roses– I love ones that aren’t traditionally red and that’s a lovely shade! I too said no chocolates this year as we are attempting to shed weight– I lost 8 lbs. since 1/1!

I love some of the soothing reads/rereads you have this week. The Good Luck Sister and The Rose Legacy look good to me, and you can’t go wrong with Harry Potter 🙂 Hope you aren’t too busy to read this week; enjoy!

8 pounds is great! My weight hasn’t budged in weeks, and I’ve been trying. I guess I need to start exercising more.

I’m all about the soothing reads right now, given my current workload!

Lovely roses! We exchanged candy but will hopefully not eat it all in a week. I sent V-day cards to my niece and nephews, now that they’re getting a bit older I thought it would be fun for them to get some mail!

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

I’m sure your nieces and nephews will be delighted! It was always fun to get mail when I was younger. Now it’s usually bills… 😛

Thos roses are phenomenal and so bright! I’ve been dropping in every once in awhile to watch the Olympics, and marvel at the talent and bravery those young people have. I’d be lucky to stay up on a snowboard or ski for 2 minutes.(lol) Hope your Sunday is fantastic! Hugs…RO

They’re a really lovely pink. I’ve been enjoying them so much! I used to ski (just for fun; I wasn’t all that good at it) and I agree; I’m blown away by the talent of these athletes. I had a hard enough time staying upright on two skis that never left the ground! (Well, rarely. There was one nice bump at my favorite slope that would get me airborne for a foot or two—if you count 3 inches off the ground as “airborne!” 😀 )

I need to read some Kevin Hearne this year! I’ve heard such great things! I haven’t heard anything about Mercedes Lackey before but I will have to check out these books! I hope you’ll enjoy all the books you got! Have a wonderful week and happy reading!

Gosh, I’m also incapable of eating just one chocolate either, but I have to try. I can’t just give them up. LOL

Ooo I need to check out that Good Luck Sister by Jill Shalvis. Her other one Rainy Day Friends is waiting for me to read. 🙂

Hope you have a great week!

Your pink roses are beautiful! The Man bought me red roses. I really love the stargazer lily, though. It is my favorite!

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

Stargazers are gorgeous, I agree. Mr. Bookwyrm usually brings me red roses, but the shop was out of them. He was apologetic, but I love these just as much! 🙂

I keep meaning to watch the Olympics but either forget about it or when I flip over it’s on commercial. I got one box of chocolate which I’m hoarding a bit. One or two pieces a day! We don’t do much for Valentine’s Day but I do try and make some kind of special dinner. The Jessica Day George is calling me. I loved Tuesdays at the Castle and want to read more. Have a great week!
