 My Week

I bought a new spinning wheel! SQUEEEE! Well, technically I bought an old spinning wheel, or rather, a used one. I’ve been wanting one for quite a while now, and finally a really good deal came along. It’s an Ashford Traditional, the older 1990s model—the same model I learned on, the one Robin and Owl share. I test-spun a little before I bought it, and it seems to be in perfect working condition. So from time to time, I’ll be sharing what I’ve been spinning as well as what I’ve been knitting.

The coming week is yet another in the series of Very Busy Weeks I’ve been having, so again, I’m not sure how much blogging/visiting/commenting I’ll be able to get to. On the plus side, it’s indexing work, so it’s income!

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: My library hold came in, so I read Lost and Found Sisters by Jill Shalvis, which I really enjoyed.  I also finished Cat of the Baskervilles (ARC), and I’m most of the way through A Scandal in Battersea (library), both of which languished for a couple of weeks half-read. However, I need to do better than this if I’m going to meet my goals for the Take Control of Your TBR Pile Challenge! Likewise my Goodreads Challenge—I’m 6 books behind schedule.

Listening to: I finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (a re-listen) and started Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (ditto.)

Watching: Father Brown season 5, but not much. I think we managed 2 episodes this week.

Library Books

Purchased for Kindle

I read Crystal Gardens when it came out, and reviewed it here. Walking on Water is one of L’Engle’s nonfiction books; I read it years ago but can’t find my copy. The other two are new to me, but Finding Camlann, while it is a novel, ties into my lifelong interest in the Arthurian legends and whatever historicity they may have. I haven’t indulged that interest in a long time, and the synospis and reviews for this book made it seem like a good opportunity to jump back in.

    Enjoy your books too, I am a fan of Mary Balogh, I have one of hers too waiting to be read.

      I’m so excited! I’ve got about a half-pound of undyed Romney to spin up, for practice.

      I love Mary Balogh; she was one of the first historical romance authors I read, and she remains one of my favorites.

      Well, I’ll be starting with some plain-jane undyed Romney wool, just for practice. If it comes out decently, I may try dying it with natural dyes, or just leave it natural.

      It’s calming until your yarn breaks LOL! But I’m having fun practicing. It will be a while until I can make my output really even, though. I hope your life calms down a little soon, too.

      Thanks! I’m having fun with it. I’ve got a bunch of fluffy undyed Romney wool that I’m spinning up for practice. 🙂

    The spinning wheel looks gorgeous! I’d love to see a spinning wheel in action or what you are able to do with it. Great books this week! I have Lost and Found Sisters on its way from the library and am really looking forward to it. As well Cat of the Baskervilles and A Scandal in Battersea look great. Hope you’re having a great week!

      I’m enjoying practicing spinning, and I think my yarn is getting a little more even. Maybe I’ll post a video sometime, if I can figure out how to do one. Enjoy Lost and Found Sisters!

      It looks old, but actually, it’s not from all that long ago! It’s an Ashford wheel, probably built in the 1990s. Spinning has experienced a real resurgence in the last 25 or 30 years, along with the resurgence of knitting, crochet, and weaving. So a number of companies now make both traditional and very modern-looking spinning wheels. 🙂 And yes, I love the library!

      Thank you! I’ve been listening to the last book almost obsessively over the last few days. I’ll probably finish it in another two or three days.

    I’ve never seen a real spinning wheel, cool. I love the Harry Potter audios and could listen to them over and over with Jim Dale. The cover for bellewether looks so pretty and I also have read books by Amanda Quick.

      I love the Jim Dale readings too. But one of these years, I plan to listen to the Stephen Fry version (the UK audiobooks.) Robin has them all.
