Sunday Post
I spent pretty much the entire week working 12-hour days, except yesterday when I sang solo for a funeral (my first solo work in several years, which was a bit nervewracking but went reasonably well) and then went with my husband to a retirement party for one of his coworkers. That meant I’ve had no time to blog; I managed to pull together a News & Notes post on Friday night, but didn’t even have time to write this Sunday Post until after church today. Fortunately, I think things will slow down a little in August. I hope that will give me a chance to catch up and maybe even get ahead on the blog!

What I’m Reading/Watching
Reading: As often happens when I’m feeling stressed or under pressure, I haven’t been sleeping well, so I got a lot of reading done. I finished Aunt Dimity and the Widow’s Curse (Nancy Atherton; library) and The Duchess Deal (Tessa Dare; ARC.) I also finished rereading The Game, Locked Rooms, The Language of Bees, and God of the Hive, continuing my a reread of Laurie R. King’s Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes series which began when I was sick in March. Currently I’m reading The Day of the Duchess (Sarah MacLean; ARC) and rereading Straight (Dick Francis; own.)
Listening to: Not much. I listened to a few podcasts but haven’t started another audiobook yet.
Watching: We watched a few more Father Brown mysteries, but mostly, I didn’t have time to watch TV.

There was a big sale on fantasy books early in the week. Some the titles here are still on sale. I used a Christmas gift card for the two Laurie R.King books, which were not on sale. I wanted reading copies so I wouldn’t mess up my treasured signed copies.

I really would love to reread all the Laurie R. King books. I love them but it’s been so long since I read some of the early ones that I remember very little of what happened. I’m excited to see what you think of Day of the Duchess. I loved the first one and am really looking forward to continuing the series. Sounds like a busy week! I can imagine that your first solo in awhile was really nerve racking. I can speak in public okay but singing is a whole different thing. Have a great week!

I love the Laurie King books, as you know, and I’m a huge rereader so I’ve reread the first 8 multiple times. I think I’ve only read the later ones once so far, but I’ll remedy that this year. 🙂
Day of the Duchess is good but heartrending; both the main characters are in so much emotional pain, and there’s a lot of pain between them. Thank goodness it’s a romance, so at least it’s guaranteed to have a happy ending!

Oh man! I hope you get to slow down soon – 12 hour days all week is too much. Was the funeral for someone you knew? Or just work? I imagine it would be much harder to sing at the funeral of someone you knew, because of the emotions. Here’s hoping this week slows down a bit for you!

It wasn’t someone I knew, thank goodness, but the mother of a couple at our church whom I know slightly (the couple, that is.) Yes, it’s much harder to sing when it’s someone you know, though I’ve done it three times: for my grandmother, my father-in-law, and my mother-in-law.
It does look like this week will be more relaxed! I’m looking forward to some time to write reviews, blog, take photos, knit, and work on the house. 🙂

I was nervous because I haven’t sung solo in a while and I seem to have developed terrible stage fright (physical, rather than mental, which is weird; I shake.) But it went pretty well. I did get to relax some yesterday (Monday)—I even watched Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in celebration of Harry’s 37th birthday!
