Sunday Post
It was a pretty quiet week here, except for the weekend. We celebrated our anniversary with dinner at a new local German restaurant. The food was very good and the deserts are made in-house also. I hadn’t had apfelstrudel in years (yum.) On Saturday we went to our church picnic, which went on despite the overcast skies and occasional showers.
I’m still working on the mammoth shawl project, but yesterday I cast on yet another scarf, this time a lightweight, lacy one with an easier pattern than my Daphne scarf (also still in progress.) I always like to have one easy-and-portable knitting project on hand for social events and anywhere I have to wait in line–something I can work on while still carrying on a conversation, and something that fits in my purse.
On the blogging front, it was a good week. I finally managed to get several reviews and posts written and posted, including one for the coming week. I haven’t been as good at keeping up with the COYER Photo Challenge over on Instagram (and reblogging my photos on Tumblr), but I did get a few done this week.

What I’m Reading/Watching
Reading: I read Mary Jo Putney’s Once a Rebel (ARC) and really enjoyed it–much of it takes place toward the end of the War of 1812, in Washington and Baltimore. And I finished rereading Dennis L. McKiernan’s Once Upon a Winter’s Night and continued through the rest of the series, though I still think the first book is the best. And I’m finishing up The Day of the Duchess (Sarah MacLean; ARC.) It’s really good, but there’s so much as-yet-unresolved pain between the two main characters that I’m having to read it in small bites. The humor interlaced throughout only goes so far to mitigate the emotional angst.
Listening to: Imaginary Worlds podcasts from back in 2015. I’m working my way through the series, skipping any that don’t appeal to me (like the episode on zombies.) I also listened to a few episodes of The Allusionist, a podcast about words.
Watching: We watched the movie Mr. Holmes, which I had never seen. Ian McKellan was superb, as were Laura Linney and Milo Parker. And we watched a few more Father Brown episodes; we’re halfway through season 3. I’m also back to watching Avatar: The Last Airbender as well. Maybe I’ll finally finish the series this fall. Right now I’m near the end of Season 2, so it’s possible.

I really need to get back to doing crocheting. I always enjoyed it so much but just can next seem to find the time. I am going to try and finish my Christmas blanket once the kids go back to school.

I tend to knit more than crochet, but my paternal Grandma taught me to crochet. She made blankets for all us kids. I still have mine, though it’s a little the worse for wear now.
I keep meaning to read Neverwhere, so when it showed up on sale for Kindle, I grabbed it.

Happy anniversary!! I haven’t read Dennis McKiernan in so long. And some of those are new to me, I guess I haven’t kept up on his output.
I think you have me talked into the Imaginary Worlds podcast. I checked out the website and a lot of the titles appealed to me, so that’s one I’m going to start listening to soon. So thanks!

No worries, you didn’t double-comment! I’m glad to have your recommendation for Neverwhere. The only Neil Gaiman I’ve read is Stardust, and I gather his other stuff is all a bit darker. But Neverwhere sounds intriguing so I think I’ll give it a try at some point. (It was on sale, so I picked it up thinking I’ll get around to it later. Hopefully.)

I’d love to knit or crochet but haven’t taken the time to learn yet. I love the idea of making my own scarves and having something productive to do with my hands. Plus all the yarn is so pretty! I’m looking forward to Day of the Duchess but it does sound pretty heavy emotionally. I may have to mix something super light with it. Have a great week!

There are so many gorgeous yarns available. I recommend going to a local yarn store if you can. While there are some decent yarns available in the big-box craft stores (I particularly like Paton’s sock yarns), the smaller dedicated yarn stores have the really good stuff. 🙂

Sounds like a beautiful anniversary dinner! I haven’t touched my laptop all this week, so I am hoping the upcoming week frees up a little time for the blog, even if it is a little here and a little there.
