Sunday Post – 9/04/16

September 4, 2016 Sunday Post 26

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

My Week

Do you ever have one of those weeks where you flit from task to task, and never get any of them finished? That’s been my week in a nutshell. Mentally, I just can’t seem to stay focused or on task. As a result, I feel like the week has been wasted, even if it wasn’t a total loss. And it’s left me behind in my work, so I’ll be pushing pretty hard this coming week.

However, it won’t be all slog and no fun. Next weekend, I’ll be attending a reunion of the kids I grew up with — my fellow “faculty brats” at the boarding school where our parents taught or worked. I was part of that close-knit bunch from age 7 through 12 or so. Three of them are my cousins, but I haven’t seen most of the others in forty years. At least 7 of us will be at the reunion—the core group—plus possibly a few others who were there for only some of those years, or arrived after I moved away. I’m really excited to see them all!

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I read Darkest Journey (Heather Graham; ARC) and continued with my re-read of a historical romances series. I think I’m pretty much done with the latter for now. I need to get back to my ARCs!

My final Avon Addicts box

For our final thank-you package, Avon asked each member of this Avon Addicts “class” (the 5th) to name our favorite Avon romance ever. Then they sent us all of them. Wow!  25 books, plus a really cool necklace. I’ve read 10 of them, which leaves me plenty to dive into as I have time!

Here’s a closeup of the necklace. It’s a quote from Lisa Kleypas’s BLAH, and says: A well-read woman is a dangerous creature. Underneath it says Avon Addict. (Apologies for the picture quality; it was beastly hard to get even a half-way decent photo of it.)

For Review or Review Consideration

Many thanks to St. Martin’s! I’ll be a tour stop for this book on October 7.

Purchased for Kindle

As usual, these were all on sale. Both Robin and I already own Writing Magic in paperback, but I thought she might find the Kindle version convenient. (We share a Kindle account.)

Happy reading!

Thank you, Berls! I feel for you; trying to keep up with a lot of kids would definitely put you more in multitasking mode than deep focus mode. 🙂

Wow, what a great haul. Your last Avon haul so does that mean they are not doing Avon Addicts any more? Not that I could ever be a member as I have tried…lol. I love that necklace that is a cool present!

Enjoy all those at leaswt you won’t run out any time soon…lol.

The program isn’t over, but they have “classes”. Basically, they take 25 applicants and you’re an active Addict for a limited time period&mdashmine was the 5th group. When that time is over (about 6 boxes of books later), you become an alumna rather than an active Avon Addict. As such, you can still request books and sometimes they send something (usually an e-ARC but sometimes a print book) to all Addicts past and present. So if you want to be an Avon Addict, just keep applying!

Thank you, Michelle! I know — the Avon folks are great! I’ve really enjoyed my time as an Avon Addict. I’m sorry it’s over but as they say, once an Avon Addict, always an Avon Addict. 🙂

  2. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

Oh I hate those kinds of weeks! I always end up feeling exhausted and frazzled with absolutely nothing to show for it. The reunion sounds really fun! I don’t think I’m still friends with anyone I knew when I was 7 so that sounds really special. What a fantastic Avon package and that necklace is awesome! As usual your Avon package looks great and you got Devil in Winter! As you know it’s one of my favorites. I’ve been itching to do a reread of it soon and now seems like the time. Have a great week!

“Exhausted and frazzled with absolutely nothing to show for it.” Oh, that is exactly how it feels. So frustrating! Luckily things are going better now (see, I’m even finding a little time to comments from several weeks ago!) Still busy, but maybe I’m a little bit more focused.

The reunion was lovely. It was so good to see all my childhood friends — and my cousins; I hadn’t seen my “twin cousin” in over 10 years. We’re “twin cousins” because we share a birthdate, though not a birth year; we’re two years apart. We were really close growing up, and I’ve missed her a lot, but she lives a long way from me now, so I don’t get to see her often.

I love The Devil in Winter too; it’s my favorite of the Wallflowers series and right up there with Mine Till Midnight. Enjoy your reread!

Thank you — it was frustrating and things are still busy, but I think I’m a little more on top of them at this point. The reunion really charged me up. 🙂

  3. Bea @Bea's Book Nook

Wasn’t that an amazing package from Avon? I couldn’t believe it. I’m thinking of hanging the necklace on the wall in my office. Most of the books I haven’t read so lots of new material for me. 🙂

Your reunion sounds fun; I Hope it will be. And your week, yeah, I’ve had weeks like that. Just pick up and move on is all you can do.

I need to check out your review of A Story to Kill; I liked it. Our stops were on the same day, lol.

I hope this week is better and have fun at the reunion!h

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

It was scrumptious!! Lots of books I haven’t read either. I love the necklace; it looks pretty good on, but it doesn’t work with the neckline on most of my shirts. I’ll have to find a few with a slightly lower neck.

The reunion was great; I had a terrific time. Thanks for stopping by!

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

It was so much fun being an Avon Addict. And my turn as an active Addict may be over, but I’ve still got all these books to read, and more! Things are still pretty busy around here (which is why I’m so darned late replying to comments — I’m sorry!) but I think I’m a little more on top of things now.

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

(Sorry for the late reply.) The reunion was really wonderful. And I got over the flitting, but apparently only because I was on deadline, because now it’s back. Sort of.
