Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme now hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl. The meme was originally the brainchild of The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Bingeworthy TV Shows/Amazing Movies.

 

Today’s TTT theme is Bingeworthy TV Shows/Amazing Movies. I don’t actually binge TV shows in the usual sense (an episode per night is as far as I usually go) but I do have some favorites from over the years that I think are binge-worthy. These are series I’m happy to watch and rewatch. No surprise, my list is heavy on British mysteries and Star Trek!

By the way, I know it looks like more than 10 series, but if you count the Lord Peters as one and all the Star Trek series as one, it’s only ten. (Hey, at least I was creative about going over the limit!)

  • Cadfael
  • Campion
  • Doctor Who (I’m still watching the Tenth Doctor seasons)
  • Foyle’s War
  • both Lord Peter Wimsey series (one with Ian Carmichael, and one with Edward Petherbridge)
  • M*A*S*H*
  • Miss Marple (starring Joan Hickson, not the more recent Marple series)
  • Poirot (David Suchet)
  • Sherlock Holmes (with Jeremy Brett) (and also Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman)
  • Star Trek: TOS, The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Discovery (and also the movies. Well, with a few notable exceptions that I prefer to pretend don’t exist. [Star Trek: The Motion Picture *cough*. Star Trek: The Final Frontier *cough cough*.] )
  • West Wing

    Doctor Who made my list as well. I am not caught up, but one of these days I might be. LOL I loved West Wing when it aired originally. Sherlock is pretty awesome, isn’t it? I have been watching Star Trek: The Next Generation off and on. It’s been fun to see how the show (and acting) has evolved.

      It’s funny; the first season of ST:NG, most of the actors weren’t all that great. Adequate, but not great. But as the series went on, they all got better and better, both individually and as an ensemble. I suspect part of it was the opportunity to work with and learn from Patrick Stewart.

    I’ve binge-watched past seasons of Project Runway before, and also a couple seasons of The Walking Dead one Fourth of July. But usually I don’t have time to watch that much TV. 😀

    My husband loves Doctor Who; we’re going to have to figure out how to watch the new season when it starts because we don’t get BBC America anymore!

      Same here — about M*A*S*H, I mean. It’s been a long time since I watched it. But at something like 11 seasons at 20-25 episodes each, that is a LOT of TV to watch.

    I’m not a big sci-fi fan… at least in TV, I actually really like it in my books (which suddenly strikes me as weird and may be a subject for a blog post lol!). I grew up on Star Trek Next Generation (my mom is a Trekky and I’ve been to conventions with her) and Deep Space Nine, so those will always have a special spot for me. I was older when she was watching Voyager, so I didn’t watch it as regularly with her. But it didn’t make your list, so maybe it’s not as good?

      I’ve been a Trek fan since the classic days (well, in syndicated reruns in the mid to late ’70s; I was too young to watch it when it first came out. But no, I didn’t think Voyager was as good, though I was initially excited at finally having a female captain, and I did enjoy the first season or two. ST:NG is probably my favorite, in part because my husband and I watched it during our courtship and the early years of our marriage.

      Brett was a brilliant Holmes, wasn’t he? I was even willing to deal with the recasting of Watson that occurred during that season.

    Yay! Another Star Trek fan! I really enjoy watching the older version and the new ones over and again. What I can watch all the time has to be Columbo and Leverage. I have the DVD’s and still watch them whenever they come on television.(lol) Sure hope your week is going well! Hugs and Happy Thursday! RO

      I’m really behind on Doctor Who; I’m still watching season 4 of New Who, I think. I loved Sherlock initially, but I wasn’t happy with season 4. I was annoyed that they never explained how Sherlock survived the fall at the end of Season 3. Explaining the unexplainable is a hallmark of the original Conan Doyle stories, and I felt the writers of the series cheated, in a way, by leaving multiple fan theories open and the question unresolved.

      I’m guessing you’re a bit young to remember M*A*S*H when it was still in production. It’s a great series, particularly after they started allowing the show to really explore the serious aspects of the war. It went from being mainly comedy to a mix of comedy and drama, and gained a lot more depth as a result.

    There are so many possibilities. I do love the Foyle’s War, Inspector Lynley, Miss Marple and Poirot. I’ve watched many of the Star Trek series also. I own Mash on DVD and we’ve watched in many, many times.

    I have only watched some Doctor Who. I’m sure I would like Sherlock if I get to it.

    I love Sons of Anarchy. Then there are oldies like Gunsmoke, Wild Wild West, Bonanza, Lucy, The Andy Griffith show.
