Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is 10 Books From X Genre That I’ve Recently Added To My TBR List.
Rather than pick the ten books most recently added to my TBR list*, I picked the titles added to my list over the last six months that I’m most interested in reading. I had a heck of a time whittling it down to ten, so I ended up with twelve. There are lots of other SFF books I want to read, but either I added them to the list more than six months ago, or I’m waiting to read some reviews before I move them higher up the priority list.
*Incidentally, by “TBR list,” I mean exactly that — books on my want-to-read list, not necessarily books I have in my possession. (That would be difficult, since over half of these aren’t out yet.)

The Mercedes Lackey really pulls at me. I like the Sherlock looking guy on the cover. This sounds like a fantasy/mystery mix. Murder Magic and What We Wore also looks intriguing! I’ve been wanting to read more fantasy and these look like ones I’d enjoy.

The Lackey is the sequel to last year’s A Study in Sable, and the 12th in the Elemental Masters series (many of which work as standalones.) Obviously, I haven’t read A Scandal in Battersea yet, but I suspect it would help to start with A Study in Sable, since Holmes and the Watsons are in that one, too. As for Murder, Magic, and What We Wore, it went by on Netgalley and I read the description and couldn’t resist!

There are a lot of interesting books coming out this year! I left a bunch of YA ones off my list, mostly because I’m waiting to see some of the advance reviews before deciding which I really want to read.

The first book in the Hunter series was interesting; a bit of a departure from her more traditional fantasy stuff. I’m still trying to get hold of the second book, Epic. It’s not a series I feel strongly about owning, so I haven’t bought it, and my library has it on order but it hasn’t come in yet.

SFF is definitely my reading of choice at the moment.
I had no idea Andy Weir had a new book coming out, and it sounds really good. Have you read The Martian? Perhaps I will have finally found the chance to read that one before the new book is released 🙂

I loved The Martian! I devoured it in a single day, before seeing the movie the next day. The movie did a great job; it was pretty faithful to the book (and the exceptions to that made sense), and the acting, direction, and special effects were excellent. I reviewed both book and movie a few years ago, here.

That sounds like a great recommendation for the book.
I watched the movie a while ago and really enjoyed it, so if the book is as good then I really must read it before his new book comes out.

I didn’t know about Tolkein’s long-dormant story –wow– just told my husband who’s read all the books (have to admit I haven’t, but I love LoTR)!
I also added the first in that Shana Abe series you’re into. I’ve read #1 & 2 in the Drakon series by her (so good– used bookstore gems) and am now reminded to get #3 too.
Also just added the Andy Weir (loved Martian– the movie, didn’t read book– yet) and added The Waking Land too, based on the buzz from the fantasy authors on GR about her debut.
I might read darker mysteries than you do, but I am very eclectic… and do dabble to a lesser extent in historical, fantasy, small-town romance, cozies, etc. Keeps my reading exciting and my blogging fresh to not have tunnel vision with my titles!

Murder, Magic and What We Wore looks awesome! This is the first I’d heard of it and am definitely adding that to my TBR. I also am really drawn to the cover of The Waking Land. The plot sounds a little generic (from the blurb) but still worth checking out.
