WIP Wednesday – 7/25/2018

July 25, 2018 WIP Wednesday 6

WIP Wednesday (for “Work In Progress”) is a meme where we share our current fibery projects. It was started by Nicole @ Book-Wyrm-Knits, who also reviews books at book-wyrm-reads

Spinning

I finished spinning the Hickory Dickory yarn, and plied it together. I’m not thrilled with how the colors came out, but the yarn itself is a little more more consistent in width than I have managed before. I seem also to be trending toward thinner yarn as I get more experience. I ended up with enough left on one bobbin to try chain-plying, though I’m not very good at it yet. I’ve skeined and washed the yarn, and it’s hanging up to dry. I should have photos of the finished yarn next time. (Note: this photo is a bit yellow due to having to take it by artificial light.)

Knitting

I finished the Whispered Reflection, my Reflection Line shawl (pattern by Tetiana Otruna, yarn by Freia Yarns), but still need to weave the ends and block it.

And I’ve started two new projects.

It’s been several years since I knit socks, so I decided it was past time I started a new pair. I’ve modified Hermione’s Everyday Socks (pattern by Erica Lueder) to incorporate a slipped stitch, which is helping to break up or at least control the pooling that occurred last time I tried knitting socks with this yarn. (Yarn: KnitPicks Stroll Multi in the Paisley colorway.)

In addition, I’m working on a secret project. I can’t show it to you because it’s a gift, and the person it’s intended for might read my blog. (Not likely, but not impossible.) I started it last week and I’m about 20% done with it. I’ll try to keep track of my progress and let you see it after I’ve given it to the recipient.

Do you knit, spin, crochet, or do other arts or craftwork? Tell me about your latest project!

I don’t know how to knit or crochet, but I’d love to teach myself. Someday I will get around to it.

YouTube is a blessing for learning any number of crafts! I’ve been watching spinning videos to increase my knowledge and skill. And although various family members taught me to knit and crochet years ago, I sometimes use YouTube to learn a new stitch or technique.

I’ve knit 7-8 pairs of socks but it’s been 3-4 years. I need to get back to it also. Beautiful work. Anne – Books of My Heart

Thank you! I love knitting socks; they’re easier than they look, and they’re so very portable! I don’t do the 2-at-a-time thing for that very reason (portability.)

I have done 2 at a time on circulars but I found it complicated to keep the balls of yarn from getting tangled in each other and lots of juggling. It is faster to do one at a time. Anne – Books of My Heart

That’s what I thought. Faster and easier. And (knock wood) I haven’t suffered from Second Sock Syndrome yet; I always finish the pair. So one at a time works for me.
