This Week’s Articles (4/22-4/28/12)

April 28, 2012 Uncategorized 0

I’ve been pretty busy this week, but I did come across a few interesting articles other than the Tor/Forge announcement.

“Retail DRM is an Apple. Library DRM is an Orange.” (Michael Kelley, The Digital Shift)  (The apple in question is the fruit, not the hardware/media company.)

“There’s a $3 Sweet Spot for eBooks, But $6 eBooks Earn More — Smashwords” (Nate Hoffelder, The Digital Reader)

“E-ink Posted a Loss Last Quarter (Damn the Kindle Fire)”  (Nate Hoffelder, The Digital Reader) This is a little disturbing, since E-ink is the primary manufacturer of e-ink screens.  Many people do seem to want a color screen, but I find reading on them to be harder on the eyes — and despite improvements, I don’t think they do as well in sunlight.  I understand wanting all your functionality on one device, but I suspect voracious readers like me will continue to prefer e-ink screens for reading.  On the other hand, I’ve been wrong before.
