I had a good week, all told.  Last Sunday, Mr. Bookwyrm and I visited the home and studio/gallery of late 19th-century/early 20th-century painter Gari Melchers, just outside Fredericksburg, Virginia.  It was incredibly hot and humid outside, but the house, which still has all the Melchers’ original furnishings and collections, was lovely, and the studio and galleries were very interesting.  Melchers was quite famous and sought-after in his own day, but later fell into obscurity.  His work has been getting much more attention in recent years — deservedly so.  I was very impressed.

Today we’re driving up to Pennsylvania to pick up “Robin” from the Alpha writer’s workshop, where she has spent the last week and a half.  Judging from her phone calls and Facebook posts, it’s been a fantastic experience, and she has learned a lot.  Coincidentally, I realized early this week that a fellow blogger, Getty of Teenage Book Critic, is also attending Alpha.  Getty posted about the workshop last Sunday. I’m hoping Robin will have a chance to write a guest post about her experiences before she heads off on a family vacation and thence to college.

    That house is gorgeous! I don’t think I have heard of him before.

    I noticed that all three books you got have blue or mostly blue covers. 😀

      Do you know, I hadn’t noticed the cover color theme until you and Kimba pointed it out? I had to chuckle. It has been beastly hot and humid here all week; I wonder if that influenced the books I picked without my realizing it.

      Thank you, Laurel-Rain! Yes, despite the heat, last Sunday was fun, and it was great to see our daughter again yesterday and hear about her week and a half at Alpha.

      If you like Krentz and Castle’s works, you’ll probably enjoy Amanda Quick. Her earlier stuff is more typical historical romance (albeit with the trademark Krentz sense of humor) but just as she did with her Krentz books, she began to insert more and more of the paranormal, culminating with the Arcane Society books and now the Ladies of Lantern Street series. Have fun reading them!

      I didn’t know you had lived in Virginia, Kimba! Or if I did know, I’d forgotten. Belmont is a wonderful place to visit; I’m embarrassed that it’s taken over 20 years for me to get around to it!

      I didn’t spot the blue thing until you and Bea pointed it out. How funny! I’m not a beach person (I sunburn too easily), so it’s not that, but maybe I was subconsciously craving cooler temps!
