Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature/meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish. This week’s topic is Top Ten Books on My Fall TBR List.
Most of my picks are new or forthcoming; a few came out earlier and I just haven’t had a chance to read them yet. And I couldn’t quite keep the list down to 10. Also, I seem to be heading toward a fantasy binge, with a few mysteries and a historical-with-touches-of-fantasy (An Uncivilized Yankee, written by a friend of mine) thrown in for good measure.
As usual, they’re not in any particular order — although the top four are definitely the top four!

I really enjoyed Cinder, though not as much as some of the other reviewers I read. It was very predictable, but it was really entertaining anyway. I hope I can get to Scarlet soon, but I’ve committed to so many ARCs that I can barely keep up!

Well, I have really high hopes for Codex Born, because Libriomancer was amazing. Tamora Pierce is always good and usually fantastic. Ditto McKinley. Lackey is an old friend (not IRL, just through her books) so even though she isn’t always at the top of her game, I still enjoy her books. Most of the others I’ve either read previous books in the series, or heard really good things about them, so altogether, my mouth is watering. Figuratively, of course (wouldn’t want to drool on the books!)

I love fantasy in the fall! (and the spring… and the summer… and the winter…) And I definitely need to get some Tamora Pierce on my to-read list, pronto.
Scarlet’s a good story; at least, I thought so. It was a little more violent than I generally go for (The Hunger Games was pretty dang hard for me to get through, and I never would have if it hadn’t been so popular) but I enjoyed Scarlet and Wolf as characters and the continuing stories of Cinder and Kai.

I love fantasy any time, too! I’ve been kicking myself that I haven’t read Scarlet yet, but it keeps taking a backseat to books I’ve agreed to review from NetGalley and elsewhere. I’m cutting back a bit so I can read some of those books I want to read, that didn’t have ARCs (or I didn’t get approved for one). So here’s hoping I can get through this list before Christmas!

Let us know how Blood of Tyrants is. I haven’t read the last few Temeraire books. Victory of Eagles was the last I got through and it left me feeling, well, underwhelmed. I found myself skimming large sections of the book trying to get to the end. Novik is one of the best writers of historical fantasy and I try to keep up with who’s who in that particular genre, but I don’t have time to read books that don’t satisfy 🙁
I’m a sucker for Sherlock Holmes, so I may give A Study in Silks a go, and the idea of libriomancy is just too cool to pass up. I’ll try to wrest some time from research projects and costume commissions to read those two (well, three–I’ll have to read Libriomancer too).

Victory of Eagles was all right for me — well, not quite as good as the previous ones, especially with Temeraire and Lawrence separated for so much of the book. But the sixth book dragged a bit, no question. I’ve heard that things pick back up in book 7, but I haven’t located an audio copy yet, so I’ll probably just find a paperback copy and read it. (I’ve listened to all the others — Simon Vance does a terrific job of narrating them.)
A Study in Silks is the first in what’s at least a trilogy, and it looks like Holmes’ niece in a steampunk/fantasy setting. I’m hoping it’s better executed than The Clockwork Scarab, which I just finished and which is also Holmes’ niece (and Bram Stoker’s sister) meet steampunk. The latter was… entertaining but flawed; I’ll put a review out later this week.

I just read your stellar review of the first two Valente books, and promptly bumped them up from 81 and 82 to 40 and 41 on my TBR list. That puts them in the “want to read as soon as I get through this big batch of ARCs I committed to” section of the TBR list, and makes me likelier to get to them in the next 6 months.
