Sunday Post — 5/05/13

May 5, 2013 Sunday Post, Sunday Salon 30

The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It’s a chance to share news.  A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Tonight is the night of our spring concert — “our” being the children’s and teen choruses I direct.  The kids have worked hard and they’re going to do really well!  As you can imagine, getting ready has been my focus this week, so I didn’t get quite as much blogging done as I’d hoped.  I finished both the books I had planned to review, but didn’t get the reviews finished.

The past week on the blog:

The coming week:

  • Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books When You Need Something Light & Fun
  • News & Notes
  • reviews of Clockwork Mafia (Seleste DeLaney) and The Apple Orchard (Susan Wiggs)

     Challenges:

I joined the Clean Sweep ARC Challenge for May, hosted by Kimba the Caffeinated Book Reviewer and Kimberly at The Windy Pages.  Since May 1, I’ve read three ARCs (well, one was a review copy of a book that’s already been published, but only recently), and I’ve started another.

I’m also participating in the NetGalley Challenge sponsored by Red House Books, which runs all year.  So far this month, I’ve finished three NetGalley books.  (By a strange coincidence, they’re the very same ones!)  I’ll post titles in early June.

    New arrivals:

For Review: Nada.  Zip. Zilch.  But that’s OK.  I’m almost overwhelmed with ARCs and review copies as it is, and you really don’t want to know how many books are sitting on the cedar chest at the end of my bed, waiting for me to get to them.  (And that’s not counting the library books and the full bookcase of unread books in the basement.)

    Bought:

I love the Temeraire books, so even though I have this in paperback (and the library has the audiobook), when the first ebook went on sale for $0.99, I grabbed it.  Suddenly Royal got good reviews from a couple of fellow bloggers, so I though I’d try it. It sounds a little like The Princess Diaries, with a grown-up protagonist.

    Freebies:

    From the library:

I just don’t know when to stop, do I?  I have no idea why I thought I’d have time to read these this month.  I haven’t even finished the stack of library books from last month.  (I haven’t even started last month’s stack!) Thank heaven for unlimited renewals (as long as no one else requests the book, anyway!)

I love my library! (And libraries in general.) As for Suddenly Royal, it didn’t look like my library was going to get it any time soon, but the sale price was pretty good.

I got His Majesty’s Dragon when it was on sale this week, too. I haven’t read these books so I’m looking forward to it. Suddenly Royal sounds good, too.

Have fun with the spring concert. It’s so great you direct the choruses.

Great haul…and I can so relate to what you say about unlimited library renewals (my library has a limit of 10 renewals) and acquiring more books even when you haven’t gotten to what you already have!

Here’s my book haul for the week–lots of books from two events I attended–AAP Book Buzz and Random House Open House: http://www.bookclublibrarian.com/2013/05/sundays-weekly-book-recap-16.html

All this…and BEA is at the end of the month! Have a great week!

BEA… oh, I’d love to go to that someday! Not this year, though. I’m even forgoing my college reunion to get a big work project done. You must be in or near New York, I’m guessing?

I don’t have a review this week either but I just finished a book last night so I need to get to it. Enjoy your challenges!

Ooh, good luck with the spring concert! Hope the kids enjoy it 🙂 Suddenly Royal looks interesting. I liked The Princess Diaries, so a similar book for adults sounds good. Hadn’t heard of it before. Hehe, I know what you mean about having waaaaay too many books to read…

Hope you enjoy all your reads and have a lovely week! 🙂

      • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

Thank you! They seem to be having fun. 🙂

I actually haven’t read The Princess Diaries (I did love the movie), but I thought SR sounded like a fun romp.

        Enjoy your week!

Unlimited renewals? I’m jealous. I thought my library was generous in letting you renew twice if no one is waiting but then you’re done. The books you go look good.

I hope the concert goes smoothly and good luck with your ARC challenge. I’m off to a goo start; I’ve read three and working on the fourth. 🙂

      • Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

The concert was great! Sounds like we’re both doing well on the ARC challenge.

And yes, my library is AWESOME. It’s actually in the nearest small city; our county library is nice but small, so we pay to be members of a multiple-county library system that isn’t *too* far away.

I hope to post a Clockwork Mafia review in the next few days. (Briefly: fun and entertaining.) Now I’m off to check your post, then get some much-needed sleep!

Oh I hope you love Suddenly Royal! It’s one of my favorites! (I had the BIGGEST book hangover after reading it- I didn’t want to read anything else!!!) Enjoy!

Thanks for stopping by my STS!

Hopefully your concert went off without a hitch! Trust me getting nothing to review is a good thing because before long you will be drowning in books and never have time to read what you want…that is me! Happy reading and have a wonderful week!

    8. Lark @ The Bookwyrm's Hoard

The concert went really well — thank you! And I’m relieved I didn’t get any review books last week; I’m already swamped. But I did get approved this week for a book I really wanted.

Apple Orchard post should go up midweek! I do plan to review the first Cat in the Stacks, or maybe the series, but heaven only knows when I’ll get to read them. I’m focusing on ARCs right now, both for the ARC challenge and because I have so darn many!
