Sunday Post – 1/12/14

January 12, 2014 Sunday Post 22

The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It’s a chance to share news.  A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

Our daughter ‘Robin’ is headed back to college today, and Mr. Bookwyrm is going on travel for a week, so I’m back to empty-nesting — rather abruptly this time.  I’ll be on my own until next weekend.  We’ll see how many projects I can get through around the house — and how many books I read!

The last two weeks on the blog:

The coming week:

  • Wed. 1/15: A Dark and Stormy Knit, by Anne Canadeo (review)
  • Fri. 1/17: Wrede on Writing, by Patricia Wrede (review)
  • Sat. 1/18: News & Notes – 1/18/14
  • and possibly other posts TBD.  I won’t be doing Top Ten Tuesday this week, but I’ll be back to it in a week or two.

I really liked the first two in this series, but missed this one when it came out.

Kindle books, purchased and free:

I found these at the Friends of the Library ‘bookstore’ for $2 each.  Nice!  I’ve read Dragonhaven but didn’t own a copy.  Dare to Repair looks quite useful (especially with my husband on travel this week!)  And I’ve become quite enamored of P. J. Lynch‘s art, so I’m picking up his illustrated books wherever I can.

I hope you and your family have a great week, even if you’re spending it in different places. It looks like you’ve got some interesting books this week – I hope you enjoy them!

I have to be careful not to fritter away my time online. I’ve made a schedule for the week, so hopefully I’ll get some reading and other stuff done. There’s a lot of decluttering to do around here! Have a wonderful week, and thanks for coming by, Kimba!

Five or six days, anyway. I’ve already finished one book and I’m 3/4 through another (granted, it’s a very light cozy mystery, so it’s moving quickly.) But I do hope to get more reading done than usual. 🙂

Hope you have a good week. Nice review of Mistress of the Wind- I’m not familiar with the original tale but this sounds intriguing (and your reference to McKiernan’s version sent me off to look at that- I want to read that one now!). Will watch for your review of Wrede on Writing as well.

Thanks, Greg! Do check out the McKiernan. The sequels were good tapering to so-so, but I really, really enjoyed the first one. ‘Wrede on Writing’ review will post on Friday! Thanks for stopping by, and have a great week.

I have mixed feelings about Dragonhaven; it was the first McKinley I read that didn’t have that ‘fairytale’ feel. But I want to read it again, and Pagan Spring is the third in a series I’ve been enjoying.

Great additions!! Hope the empty nesting wasn’t too hard on you. I have a few years before my daughter leaves for college, and I know it’s going to be a huge adjustment for me 🙁 Thanks so much for stopping by the blog and leaving that awesome comment on my Favorite Things post — it was much appreciated. Happy Reading 🙂

I seem to be dealing with the empty house pretty well this time, though I’m spending way too much time online and not getting my other projects done. Yes, it’s a big adjustment, and you will miss her a lot, but it’s also a chance to reconnect with who you are when you aren’t being Mom. I wouldn’t trade my years of stay-home-mothering and homeschooling for all the peas in Persepolis (extra points to anyone who identifies that quote!) But I’m more than a wife and mother, and I need some quiet time to figure out who I am and who I want to be – to reconnect with old dreams and forge new ones.

And you’re welcome! Thanks for stopping by here, too!
