The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer.  It’s a chance to share news.  A post to recap the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

You can see I went on a fantasy kick recently! All three of this week’s reviews are books I read since turning in the index a week and a half ago. (I actually re-read Dark Witch, even though it wasn’t that long since I’d read it, because I had preordered the sequel and I wanted to read them straight through in order.)

It was nice to have a bit more “free” time this week. I spent most of it catching up on the blog (I’m not there yet – I want to get several weeks ahead) and working on some other projects. I’ve got another job coming in a few weeks, so I need to get my ducks in a row as far as the concert program and publicity, so I’m not scrambling to finish an index and publicize a concert in the same week. The music is coming along well, and I just love working with these kids. They’re such a delight, all of them.

    I read that article about the teacher using the GoT spoilers- too funny! Your review of Codex Born has me curious about those books- I’ve heard good things about Jim Hines. And hope you like Grave Mercy- I thought it was pretty good.

      Thanks, Greg! Yes, that teacher is pretty smart. And I think you’d like Jim Hines. His books are imaginative and intelligently written. (Granted, I’ve only read a few of them so far, but I’m impressed.)

    Oh wow! Am I the only one who hasn’t read the Cinder series yet? 🙁
    After reading your review for Codex Born I can tell that the story’s as good as that cover!

    Also Grave Mercy! You will LOVE this one, Lark-It’s one of my top favorite YA historical fiction reads. 😀

    The Beekeeper’s Apprentice sounds like a brilliant read-A female apprentice who’s wit matches Sherlock Holmes? GIMME!

      Oh, Nuzaifa, if you haven’t read The Beekeeper’s Apprentice (and its sequels) yet, you’re in for a treat! I love that series — some more than others, but all of them are really good.

      Thanks for the recommendation on Grave Mercy; I feel like you and the Cinder series, because everyone seems to love it and I haven’t read it yet. I hope I can squeeze it in soon.

    Is it bad that I had no idea that JCG passed in 2012? I love her Julie of the Wolves series. I started it when I was 9 and I’ve re-read it at least 20 times I love it so much. I saw the whole teacher disciplining students with GoT spoilers too and thought it was great! I had a teacher who would pull stuff like that when I was in high school. I’ve had The Bee Keeper’s Apprentice on my TBR for so long I better put a hold on it at the library. I hope you enjoy all your new books Lark, have a great reading and blogging week.

      I loved JCG’s My Side of the Mountain books, but I think I must have tried to read Julie of the Wolves at the wrong time (for me), because I didn’t connect with it at the time. I should go back and try again. As for The Beekeeper’s Apprentice, well, I’m a huge fan and I push them on everyone, so go read it IMMEDIATELY! [Just kidding. I’ll give you a month or two. 😉 ]

    Good haul this week! I will have to check out Jim C. Hines– never heard of him but I like fantasy sometimes. I have the first Dark Witch on my kindle now, ready to read. I read Cinder but not Scarlet yet. I have also had my eye on Laurie R. King but I guess I do have to start with the first one to understand the series.

      Libriomancer and Codex Born are great! It helps if you’re familiar with at least the big names in fantasy, because books (particularly fantasy) figure heavily in the overall premise, and spotting them is a lot of fun. I think you could enjoy it even without that, though (and I know I haven’t read every single book he references, myself.)

      And yes, as I said to both Kimberly and Nuzaifa, go read The Beekeeper’s Apprentice!

      Laurie King’s Mary Russell series is, hands down, one of my top ten mystery series of all time. (Ooh, there’s a good post idea!) I’ve read the series multiple times, so when I had some credit to spend (from that ebook settlement), I bought the first ebook so I would always have it with me when I travel.

      Thanks, Becki! I’m looking forward to reading those (well, I’ve read The Beekeeper’s Apprentice; it’s one of my favorites, so I wanted an e-copy.) And I devoured Shadow Spell in the first day or two — I should have been reading TBR pile books for Kimba’s challenge, but I just couldn’t wait!

      I can do without the scary books, but I’ve been craving fantasy lately. Except late at night; for some reason, I’d rather have a nice soothing small-town romance at night. Less stressful, so I sleep better. 🙂

      Yes, the choir keeps me busy (and the indexing keeps me busier, when I have a project), but it’s so worth it. I’ve got my older singers working on a Gloria by Vivaldi, and I wasn’t sure when when we first started, but wow, they are really getting it now. It’s so great to watch them catch fire like that.

      I couldn’t wait — I read Shadow Spell as soon as it arrived, even though I should have been reading Take Control books! Oh, well, I enjoyed ever minute of it. Connor and Meara, as I thought. Can’t wait for the next one! (But dash it all, I’ll have to. It won’t be out until November. [wails] I want it NOW!)

      That teacher is pretty clever! That’s a discipline tactic that wouldn’t have occurred to me when I was teaching, but it’s brilliant. Even the kids who don’t watch or read the series will fall in line due to peer pressure.

      Blogging can be very addictive! I have to be careful to balance it against time with my husband and also the things I have to do, whether for my health (I’d rather blog than go to the gym, but working out is important) or around the house.

      If you haven’t read The Beekeeper’s Apprentice yet, you’re in for a treat. Check it out! The best non-Doyle Sherlock Holmes series I’ve ever read, and excellent in its own right.
