August 2022 Readathin Wrap-Up

September 1, 2022 Challenges 10

The Readathin was hosted by Donna at momsbookcollection, and you can read the announcement post there. There’s also a Readathin Twitter account.

How I Did Overall

I’m pleased that I read 10 books that qualify for the Readathin, but I didn’t make Bingo, and I really neglected the self-care prompts, which for me were part of the appeal of the challenge. If I participate in the Readathin next time it comes around, I’ll have to pay more attention to which books I choose to read, and to the self-care prompts.

Self-Care Prompts I Accomplished

  • 30 min screen break – I did this several times.
  • Start a journal – I’m not sure this counts, but since I filled up my current reading journal, I started a new one: set it up with a (blank) table of contents, and started recording my latest reading in it. I record some facts about the book (title, author, series, publisher, dates read, date reviewed, rating, challenges) and my thoughts and reactions. I use those as springboards for my reviews.

About the Readathin

The Readathin occurs four times per year. It is hosted by Donna at momsbookcollection, and you can read the August announcement post and see all the reading and self-care prompts there. There’s also a Readathin Twitter account.

I like the combination of book prompts and self-care prompts, even if I didn’t do most of the latter. And the book prompts are varied enough that it was easy to find books on my TBR list that qualified.

Still a great job! I didn’t get a BINGO either, and I had questions about some of the self-care prompts, too. I also get a new journal ready to replace a full one—but couldn’t decide if that counted or not, since it wasn’t a new kind of journal.

I set my new journal up, and then discovered that the PU “leather” is flaking off rather badly at the creases. It was a cheap journal I bought from Walmart, and they don’t sell that make/style anymore. Nor can I find it anywhere else, darn it. So I’ve ordered two journals: a relatively inexpensive no-name to see if it’s any good, and a Leuchtturm because I have always wanted to try one. I’ll have to use the no-name to start with; the Leuchtturm in the color I wanted won’t get here until late September.

I love the self care prompts! Maybe you could do a Self Care September and try and check off some of the prompts this month.
