Goodreads Challenge 2022
I will be doing the Goodreads Challenge again this year. I missed my goal by 10 books in 2021, so I’m setting the bar a little lower for 2022: 175 books instead of 180. That’s still more than I read in 2021.
The Backlist Reader Challenge 2022
I’m hosting this challenge, so of course I am participating! The Backlist Reader Challenge 2022 is aimed at reducing the number of older books that have been languishing on your TBR list for years. The rules are pretty simple: basically, you read books published before 2020, that are already on your TBR list when you sign up for the challenge. (Also, link a sign-up post — this is mine — and if you want, link up your reviews in the linky that will go live on January 5, 2022.)
I have two TBR lists: my Goodreads “to-read” shelf, and my Goodreads “someday” shelf. I’m counting both of them for the challenge. I want to get this posted, so I’m going to stretch a point and add books to my TBR list over the next few days — mostly books I recently acquired, or later books in series I have already started. In other words, the books I’m adding are on my mental TBR list already; I just need to formally add them to Goodreads.
My goal is to read 24 qualifying books. My secondary goal is to actually review them and post the reviews, since I have been really bad at doing either over the last few years.
2022 Library Love Challenge
The Library Love Challenge is hosted by Angel’s Guilty Pleasures & Books of My Heart. You can read all the details and rules at the link, but the gist is to read library books in any format, review them, and link your reviews.
I am aiming for the Dewey Decimal level: 12 books over the course of the year. There was a time when I would take out 20 books per month, but between ARCs and books I own but haven’t yet read, my library use has dropped off a bit — and the pandemic hasn’t helped at all. Still, I support my local and regional libraries, and I’m happy to continue paying a yearly fee to use the regional library.
2022 COYER Seasons and COYER Community
The COYER reading challenges are hosted by Michelle and Berls @ Because Reading Is More Fun, Stephanie @ Once Upon a Chapter and Lillian @ Mom With a Reading Problem. There are two distinct but connected challenges: Seasons and Community. You can participate in either or both. I will be participating in both. I value the COYER community and the friendships I have found there, so participating in these challenges is non-negotiable for me.
The rules are long and a bit complex, and I’m not going to reiterate them here. You can read all the rules for all the Seasons and sign up for COYER 2022: Winter here. If you want to join the Community, you can read about that at the same link, and join the COYER Community Facebook group.
I’m officially signing up for COYER 2022: Winter. Qualifying books are digital format only (ebook, Kindle, audiobook), and must be under $3 for ebooks/Kindle and under $5 for audiobook. ARCs count, but library books, borrowed books, or books read through subscription services (Kindle Unlimite, Amazon Prime, Audible Plus) do not. In other words, it has to be yours. My goal is to read 6 qualifying books, although I hope I can read more than that.
Read Christie 2022
Read Christie 2022 is this year’s book club/reading challenge from the authorized Agatha Christie website. They pick a theme and a specific book each month. You can either read the official book, or choose another that fits the theme. The challenge is particularly popular on Instagram, which is how I heard about it. I love Agatha Christie, and decided that one book per month was about the right speed, so I went ahead and added this challenge. (I added it after this post went live, but I wanted to circle back and include it in my list of 2022 challenges.)
Other challenges
There are a lot of other yearly challenges that look very tempting, from the POP Sugar challenge to a Diversity challenge. But it takes time (and a good memory) to keep track of them all, so I will probably not be adding any more yearly challenges for 2022. I will, however, occasionally participate in some shorter challenges and readathons as I have time.
