In the Dragon’s Eye: June 2018 New Releases

June 5, 2018 In the Dragon's Eye 10

June Books I Can’t Wait to Read

Island of the Mad by Laurie R. King (June 12) Last year’s The Murder of Mary Russell dropped a bombshell on my understanding of one character and on other characters’ relationships to that person. I’m excited to see how (and if) they are coping with the changes. The book is set in Venice under Mussolini, and includes Cole Porter as a character. It should be fascinating—and besides, look at that gorgeous cover!  [Goodreads]

I’m excited about the new Mary Russell book but I desperately need to get caught up on the series itself. The Rainy Day Friends is high up on my TBR. I read the first two and loved them. The Lost Words Bookshop looks fantastic but I’m easily swayed by the word bookshop in a title!

I hope you enjoy the Valdemar book! I’ve decided (after too many false starts) to not read any new Lackey books, so I’ll have to enjoy that one vicariously through you.

I’m looking forward to starting the Mary Russel series, though, so thanks for the reminder that I have a lot of those to read!

I’ve been disappointed in some (many) of Lackey’s books recently… they’ve been OK but not up to the standards of her best books. But you’re going to love the Mary Russell series! (Of course, even King falters now and then. Pirate King wasn’t great, and The Moor drags a bit, but they’re still worth reading.)
