- ABA, Author’s Guild Slam Trump’s Legal Campaign Against Fire and Fury, Michael Wolff’s controversial book about the first nine months in the Trump White House. The book was published on Friday when publisher Henry Holt decided to release it early, before the officially scheduled Jan. 9 publication date. Trump’s attorney sent a cease-and-desist letter, claiming that statements made in the book are libelous; the ABA and Author’s Guild issued statements supporting Holt’s decision to publish the book. - Jacqueline Woodson named National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature (Los Angeles Times)
- B&N Has Disappointing Holiday Sales. (Publishers Weekly)
- NYT, PBS Newshour Launch ‘Now Read This’ Book Club (Shelf Awareness)
- Print sales were up again in 2017, though only by 1.9% over 2016. Print sales have continued to rise since 2013. (Publishers Weekly)

- Kick canon to the curb in 2018. Book Riot’s S. W. Sondheimer argues that it’s time to forget about literary canon, and uses well-known and award-winning children’s books to make her point.
Free Fiction Online
- Neil Gaiman’s Anansi Boys — or rather, the BBC’s 6-hour radio adaptation of the book — is available to listen to free, for a limited time.

Bookish Quote
Actually, I don’t agree with this sentiment at all—but I find it highly amusing that people have believed the world was going downhill as far back as ancient Rome. And it’s a riot that Cicero thought that lots of people writing books was evidence of times being “bad.”

I can’t believe how many book-to-movie adaptations are coming out this year! It seems like an awful lot. I haven’t read a lot of them, but I’m excited to read and see Ready Player One this year.

I think the ratio of meaningful to silly tweets was higher in the early days of Twitter, particularly insofar as it was used to report news or organize protests.
