- “Winter Weather Disrupts Book Sales” (Publishers Weekly). No surprise there!
- Apple’s appeal rejected by court in ebook price-fixing case, which allows the court-appointed monitor to continue working. (New York Times)
- Dreamworks creates in-house Dreamworks Press. Sales and distribution will be handled by a branch of Perseus. (Publishers Weekly)
- Oyster, the ebook subscription service, now offers children’s books, including a number of Disney titles. (Oyster blog)
- “Open Road Media Acquires E-Reads,” giving Open Road an additional 1,200 books in a variety of genres by authors such as Greg Bear, Aaron Elkins, and Laura Kinsale. (Publishers Weekly)
- Barnes & Noble announced the finalists for its 2013 Discover Award. (Barnes & Noble)
Literary Losses:
- Maxine Kumin, prizewinning poet and former U.S. poet laureate, died Feb. 6 at the age of 88. She was best known for “Up Country,” the work for which she won the Pulitzer. (AP)
Book Announcements:
- Neil Gaiman’s The Graveyard Book to be released as graphic novel. The 2 volumes are adapted by P. Craig Russel and a team of artists will create the pictures. Look for volume 1 on July 29; Vol. 2 is due on Sept. 30. (Neil Gaiman’s blog; he also talks about the Winter’s Tale movie.)
- Stephen King has 2 new novels coming: Mr. Mercedes in June, and another book entitled Revival in November. (GalleyCat)
