Belated Sunday Post – 5/31/2020

June 1, 2020 Sunday Post 4

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

NOTE: I am appalled and outraged by the murder of Mr. Floyd by a policeman — as indeed we all should be. While I have usually avoided politics on this blog, I cannot in conscience pretend that everything is fine, or ignore his death and the subsequent upwelling of protest and anger, so expect to see at least one post about it this week.

I know this post is late, but… well, you’ll see why.

I turned in a project midweek week. Since then, I’ve been …. Well, the plan was to sew a few masks, knit, spin, and write, but none of that happened. Instead, our AC stopped working and started leaking (unrelated issues), so we we had to prepare the basement for repairmen to come fix it, moving several shelves in the process. It took two separate visits (with everyone masked), the first to evaluate fix what wasn’t working, and a second trip by two more guys to repair the leaking line. After they left, we aired out the basement in case there was any virus in the air. Yesterday, we put everything back in place and started decluttering our video & DVD collection, part of which was housed on one of the shelves we had to move. And then Saturday night I had to make an emergency trip to the ER for an episode of arrhythmia. (No worries; I’ve had it before; I’m fine now, and came home that night.) Precautions were taken by all in the rescue squad and ER, so with luck, we weren’t exposed to the virus. We’ll know in a week or two, I guess. Right now, I am thankful to be home.

Since I hadn’t finished this post, it didn’t go live on Sunday. I spent Sunday resting and doing whatever I wanted instead of finishing it, so I am posting it on Monday instead.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I read an ARC of Summer at Haven Point by RaeAnne Thayne, a nice, quick, and light summer romance. I’m currently rereading This Rough Magic by Mary Stewart (reviewed 2015) and The Little White Horse by Elizabeth Goudge (reviewed 2013.) I’m also slowly reading my way through an ARC of The Book of Dragons, an anthology of fantasy stories. The stories are good, but so far there aren’t a lot of unequivocally optimistic stories or happy endings, which means I can only manage to read one or two stories every few days. At some point, I’ll try to get back to my ARC of The Summer Deal by Jill Shalvis. (Click titles to view on Goodreads.)

Listening: I am more than halfway through Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire; Harry is past the second task.

Watching: I’m watching the last of the Lord Peter Wimsey & Harriet Vane miniseries, Gaudy Night.

For Review or Review Consideration

Book cover: Spy, Spy Again, by Mercedes Lackey

Many thanks to Daw for Spy, Spy Again! (Click title for Goodreads link.)

From the Library

I missed requesting The Sea Glass Cottage when it was on NetGalley. I love RaeAnne Thayne, so I put the ebook on hold, and my turn finally came up this week. (My library is still closed for print books, but they’ve really expanded the digital collection.) However, like most contemporary fiction right now, it’s not holding my attention, so I’m letting it go for now.

Purchased (Kindle, print, or audio)

Print: King Arthur; The Harp of Kings; The Marvelous Land of Oz; The Art of Language Invention. Kindle (sale/free): Someone to Honor (reviewed in 2019); Booked for Trouble; The Folk Tales of Scotland; A Fatal Secret. Kindle (full price): The Little White Horse (reviewed in 2013). Audiobooks (Audible, Libro.fm, or Chirp): The Untamed Bride; Marrying Winterborne (Click title for Goodreads page or my review.)

Stay safe, stay healthy, stay kind… and may you find books a haven in the coming weeks.

Well you had a crazy week. I hope you are feeling fine now and can do a few relaxing things. I am upset with all the events over the last week and even before that time. It’s been festering for a long time with various events.

I think I may have to put a call in about our AC also.

Stay safe and well! Wishing you a better week.

I’m sorry to hear about your week. I know it’s been pretty crazy out there in the world right now. It’s hard to put into words everything that I’m feeling from all that’s transpired. I don’t doubt that it’s the same for many of us. I’m trying to stay busy, keep my mind from it nonstop, especially having little ones to worry about as well, but it’s no easy feat. Suffice to say, it’s not going to be okay, but at least we can keep the mind busy a bit, even if only for a fraction of the time, through our blogs, focusing on family, and trying to move forward. I hope you are good and your health back on track. Take care and God bless.
