Happy Easter! (Sunday Post – 4/21/2019)

April 21, 2019 Sunday Post 17

Happy Easter
The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Happy Easter!

A very happy Easter to those celebrating it this week, and a happy Pesach to those celebrating Passover!

Spring is truly here! The weather is lovely and the flowering trees and bushes have been beautiful. While we have had stormy days, we’ve also had days of glorious sunshine and perfect temperatures (which for me means about 62–72 F.)

Poor Mr. Bookwyrm was under the weather all week with either a bad cold or really bad allergies. He had no voice, so I ended up singing the litany of saints at church last night. Today we’re spending a quiet day, dyeing eggs, fixing a simplified version of our traditional Easter dinner, and reading, blogging, crafting, and just hanging out.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading:  I finished Devil’s Daughter by Lisa Kleypas, and Dick Francis’s Break In, which I started rereading last week, followed by the sequel, Bolt. (Reviews to come.) Decision at Doona (Anne McCaffrey) went on sale for Kindle, so I bought it and promptly reread it. I’m close to finishing Snow White and Rose Red, a fairytale retelling by Patricia Wrede that I read back in the early 1990s and haven’t read since. First Rider’s Call is on semi-hiatus for the time being.

Listening to: I finished A Wrinkle in Time. I love the book and have read it many times, but this was my first time listening to the audiobook. Hope Davis does a pretty good job with the narration, although there were some places I would have emphasized phrases differently, or given a different emotional coloring to the voice. (I have read this book aloud at least once, to Robin, and possibly also to one of my classes back when I was a teacher.)

Watching: We took a break from Star Trek: Discovery Season 2 this week, but did watch a few episodes of  Eureka Season 3. We also pulled out our Pink Panther DVD set and watched the first two movies. They are dated but still funny.

Purchased for Kindle

Decision at Doona, Cast in Shadow, and A Natural History of Dragons were on sale. The other two I purchased to continue reading a series. I also pre-ordered six of Dick Francis’s early books, which will be released on Kindle on May 2.

Have a great week, and happy reading!

I am sorry to hear Mr. Bookwyrm is ill. I hope he is feeling better soon! I am glad to hear though that the weather has taken a turn for the better for you! I have a copy of Brennan’s book. I just love the title and it sounds like it will be good. I hope you enjoy all your new books! Have a wonderful week, and Happy Easter!

He’s feeling better, thanks. Still coughing, but otherwise feeling quite a bit better.

I don’t know why it has taken me so long to read the Brennan book(s.) I mean, dragons! I should have been all over it the minute it came out. But maybe now I’ll finally get around to reading it.

My husband and I are both sick with the flu this weekend too so my sympathies to the Mr.Ive always had the intention to read the Elantra Chronicles but never quite gotten to it.

    Have a great reading week

Oh, no! I hope you get over it soon! I hope you’re getting lots of sleep and some time to read (or listen to audiobooks, if your eyes and head hurt too much to read.)

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

Well, he was feeling a bit better by the weekend, but the cough is still hanging on. Our restful Easter was very nice. 🙂 I hope you had a great weekend!

That sounds like a perfect Easter! Hope your hubby is feeling better soon, it seems everyone at work is suffering from allergies lately.

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

He’s already feeling better, but the cough apparently lingers for weeks. (The current guess is that it’s a respiratory virus. But I’m sure the allergies aren’t helping!) He’ll be touched that people are wishing him well.

My library is great, but it’s a half-hour away. (The local library is OK, but has a much smaller selection.) So while I do make a lot of use of it, I prefer to have some books “to hand” — especially books and authors I love and know I will reread frequently, like Dick Francis. Actually, in that specific case, I’m replacing my older paperbacks with Kindle because the font is adjustable. Some of my paperbacks are getting harder to read as my eyes get older, and I know that’s only going to get worse over the years.

Have a lovely week! It’s going to be warmer, but still beautiful!

  4. Katherine @ I Wish I Lived in a Library

Sounds like a lovely Easter Lark! I hope Mr. Bookwyrm is feeling better. With everything blooming and coming back to life the allergies have been killer. I’ve been buying Zyrtec and Benadryl in bulk! I hope you’re having a wonderful week!
