July 8, 2018 Sunday Post 14

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

 My Week

We had a good week with Robin: we saw several movies (at home and in the theater), played games, laughed a lot, got together with friends, and celebrated Mr. Bookwyrm’s birthday (late) by seeing the American Shakespeare Center’s production of As You Like It at the Blackfriars Playhouse in Staunton, Virginia. It was wonderful, as every show we’ve seen there has been. Robin left early this morning, headed back West. We’ll get together again in September for our niece’s wedding.

I plan to spend this week catching up on as much as I can: laundry, housework, decluttering, writing, blogging, taking photos, and spinning. And resting, and maybe some light exercise. My doctor is sending me for physical therapy for my shoulder (which is now partially frozen) so hopefully I can start that soon as well. I’m also hoping to make it up to DC for Naomi Novik’s Spinning Silver tour, but we’ll see how it goes. I’ve got at least another week off from indexing, and I want to both enjoy the free time and make the most of it!

What I’m Reading/Watching

What I’m Reading: I finally finished Herons Landing (JoAnn Ross; ARC), which I started a while ago but set aside because I was in the wrong mood at the time. I also reread Sharp Edges by Jayne Ann Krentz, as well as My Enemy, My Ally by Diane Duane.  Now I’m reading Shelved Under Murder (Victoria Gilbert; ARC) and The Romulan Way (Diane Duane.) I’m still slowly working my way  through Year of Wonder: Classical Music for Every Day (ARC.)

Listening to: The Winter Sea by Susanna Kearsley, which I’m loving. I’ve been listening on Spotify to the Year of Wonder playlists that go with Year of Wonder: Classical Music for Every Day  And we enjoyed a few podcasts on our way to and from Staunton yesterday: Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me and one from The Allusionist about the Scots language.

Watching: We watched The Black Panther, which Mr. Bookwyrm and I missed when it was in theaters. It was amazing — good screenplay, terrific acting, fantastic set and costume design.  We also screened The Incredibles, which, incredibly, we had never seen. Robin had, and insisted we watch it before going to see The Incredibles 2 the next evening.  Both Incredibles movies are a lot of fun… but I’m glad we didn’t have to wait 14 years between films like most of the fans!

For Review or Review Consideration

Nothing this week!

Library Books

Two books I want to evaluate before I decide whether to buy them. I suspect I’ll buy the All Souls reference book, but probably not the one about the British Museum’s Harry Potter exhibit.

Purchased for Kindle

I’m not sure how, but I managed to keep the purchases to a minimum this week — and both were on sale.

Have a good week, and happy reading!

Sounds like a very fun week! I still need to get to The Winter Sea – it’s been sitting on my shelf for far too long!

It’s wonderful! And the narrator is great; I’m glad I decided to listen to it, even though I also have it on Kindle.

Glad you had a good week! And good luck with your shoulder- I hope all goes well there.

It’s so nice to see some of the older Star trek novels! I don’t see those much anymore (and even less on blogs). Heart’s Blood by Marillier looks good too.

Hope you have a wonderful week.

Thanks, Greg! I didn’t read a lot of the ST novels, but there are some I loved and still reread, all of them based on TOS: all of Diane Duane’s TOS novels, plus Uhura’s Song (Janet Kagan) and Ishmael (Barbara Hambly.) I’m sure there are other good ones out there, and I may start poking around used bookstores looking for them.

      Have a great week!

I miss going to plays! We used to go to the local theater here a pretty good bit but since the Tornado was born we’ve slowed way down though we have gone to the local children’s theater some. Good luck with your shoulder physical therapy! Hopefully you’ll get your mobility back soon. I liked the JoAnn Ross but I can see it being mood specific. Have a great week!

We’ve been trying to get to more plays and concerts, but it’s often hard between my husband’s work schedule and my own. But the ASC plays are really good, and they’re something we’ve been doing as a family for at least 10 years now; we started going when we were homeschooling Robin. It’s a long drive, about two and a half hours, but totally worth it when we can fit it in.
