July 19, 2020 Sunday Post 17

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

Mr. Bookwyrm had to go in to work for part of the day several times this week (for the first time in months), but he’ll still be mostly working from home. I still don’t have an indexing job, so I baked banana bread, did some spinning and knitting, and wrote a few posts and reviews. I also made regular bread using the breadmaker, which doesn’t really count as baking but tastes great. But I feel as though I should have been a lot more productive.

Last Week on the Blog

This Week on the Blog

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I read Deadly Touch (Heather Graham; ARC) and The Relentless Moon (Mary Robinette Kowal; ARC). I also started rereading The Fairy Godmother by Mercedes Lackey, because the other books were a little too intense for middle-of-the-night-insomnia reading. And I need to pick up An Extraordinary Union again; I paused it to read The Relentless Moon. (Click titles for my review or to see the title on Goodreads.)

Listening: I have been listening to podcasts, mainly Harry Potter and the Sacred Text, 99% Invisible, and Imaginary Worlds.

Watching: We’ve been watching the 1980s Adventures of Sherlock Holmes mysteries starring Jeremy Brett. We also watched Avengers: Age of Ultron.

It sounds like you’ve been busy to me! I have also treated myself to The Relentless Moon, having thoroughly enjoyed the previous two books in the series… Have a good week, Lark:)

You’re in for quite a ride! It was fantastic but also intense (as you’ll know from the first two books.) I hope to have my review out this week.

And I can’t wait to read yours! I was sad to see you close down Emerald City Reviews, but I’m glad you’re still blogging and reviewing. 🙂

It’s good you can get flour now. We had a hard time getting flour and yeast, but I was finally able to get plenty of both, so I’m set. As for the side effects of baking, I hear you! My weight is holding steady, but I’d like to lose a few pounds — not for fashion’s sake but to increase my chances of surviving COVID if I get it. So I’ll have to be more careful about the baking and the snacking.

I know I am going to look back at all this time at home and wish I had done more! But, I think we all deserve some grace because these aren’t normal times!

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

You are absolutely right about that — these aren’t normal times. And we should all be a bit easier on ourselves. I’ll work on that. 🙂

You have some great reads there. I also got the Midnight Bargain. I think we all feel like we should be more productive, it’s the American Way. Other countries have longer vacations / holidays and they are better at relaxing than we are I think. The not sleeping well off and on and weird hours since I don’t really have a specific schedule is making me tired. Have a lovely week. Stay safe and be kind.

Those are both good points. We do overvalue busy-ness and productivity in the US, at the cost of family and self-care. And for many of us, our schedules aren’t normal, and that doesn’t help either.

I hope The Midnight Bargain is as good as it sounds! I look forward to your thoughts once we have both read it. 🙂

  4. Aj @ Read All The Things!

I baked tons of banana bread and muffins at the start of quarantine. Then I decided I should probably lose weight while staying inside instead of swallowing as much banana bread as possible :). I hope you have a great week!

I think a lower key week sounds lovely. Don’t let the productivity voice ruin it for you! Everyone should take a break periodically guilt free. Glad Mr. Bookwyrm will still be mostly at home. Definitely less stressful. Enjoy your books! That Heather Graham is calling my name! Have a great week!
