August 5, 2018 Sunday Post 30

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

 My Week

Where does time disappear to? I always think I can get so much accomplished in a week, and I’m lucky if I finish a third of it. I did a little more wardrobe purging this week, tried (in vain) to catch up on overdue reviews and other blog posts, and got absolutely nowhere with my goal to declutter my desk and study/office.  On the other hand, I went twice to PT, did my exercises at home, knit a bit and spun a bit, cuddled the cat, read, and spent some time with Mr. Bookwyrm… all little things rather than big accomplishments, but mostly restful and satisfying. (OK, physical therapy isn’t either, but I’m making slow progress.) We also went out to dinner with some friends on Saturday evening, and spent about 3 hours talking and catching up; it was a really good evening.

Susanna Kearsley is coming to our regional library this afternoon, touring her new book, Bellewether (review). I’ve become a huge fan, so needless to say, I will be there, camera and notebook in hand! I’m meeting a friend there as well. I plan to bring two of Ms. Kearsley’s older books in hopes she will sign them—The Shadowy Horses (review) and The Firebird—and of course I’ll be buying a copy of Bellewether  for myself and at least one or two as gifts.

Last Week on the Blog

Upcoming on the Blog

  • WIP Wednesday – tentative

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished rereading Bellewether so I could write my review. It’s so beautiful, and just as good the second time around. Maybe more so, because I noticed details I hadn’t picked up on the first time I read it. I also read Rockets’ Dead Glare, a novella by Lynn Cahoon. I started two more review copies: Once a Scoundrel (Mary Jo Putney, forthcoming) and The Corpse in the Crystal Palace (Carola Dunn, already published.)  In ongoing books, I’m about 3/4 through the short stories from The Underwater Ballroom (anthology; ARC), and I’m still working my way through Year of Wonder: Classical Music for Every Day (ARC.)

Listening to: The Firebird by Susanna Kearsley.  I like the book itself, almost as much as I did The Shadowy Horses, but the narrator isn’t quite as good at the variety of accents as either of the narrators of the last two Kearsley books I listened to.

Watching: Mr. Bookwyrm and I watched Wonder Woman for the second time. Still awesome! Other than that, I really didn’t watch much this week.

Ooh nice that Susanne Kearsley is coming by! Sounds like a fabulous event. And how are you liking Underwater Ballroom? I have it but haven’t read it yet.

It was a terrific event. And Underwater Ballroom is good but I keep not picking it up to read the last few stories. I’ll have to make a point of that before the end of the month.

That is pretty neat about Susanne Kearsley coming to your library! Hope you have a good time and get those books signed too. Hope you have a happy Sunday.

No matter how much time I have, I never seem to get everything done. I really need to start some Susanna Kearsley books! Hope you enjoy her event!

Definitely relaxing. Over a month later, as I’m finally trying to catch up on comments(!), I’m wishing I had time for another week like that!

  4. Nicole

Oooh, Susan Cooper books I haven’t read! (Well, okay, I’ve only read her Dark is Rising sequence.) And have a good time at the book signing! Sounds like fun!

I’ve added Bellewether to my TBR. Kearsley has been on my TBR for far too long as it is and I do need to actually read her. Is it possible to get everything accomplished? I’ve been more organized since school started and it’s helping a bit I think. Hope you’re having a lovely week.

I don’t think it’s possible to ever read all the books! As for getting everything accomplished, if you figure out how, please share the secret with me!

Sometimes you just need a different pace. I find sometimes although I am busy every minute I don’t have much to show for it. Time is needed to reflect, think and plan. I’m happy for the Kearsley event for you – enjoy. Anne – Books of My Heart

I hear you on only accomplishing a third of your plans for the week. It’s crazy how fast time goes when you have all the things you want to do. But, when at work, it seems to go so darn sloooooow. lol. Hope you have a great week and get through the list. 🙂

    • Lark_Bookwyrm

And it’s so odd how some days seem to fritter themselves away without much getting done, while on others, you can plow through your to-do list in no time flat. Time is a very strange thing.

Catching up is nice! I didn’t get the things I needed done this week, either. I am just now getting around to my visiting and commenting, and I’m even cutting that thin. I haven’t worked in my bullet journal or on the blog all week. I finally cleaned up my clothes pile last night and cleared a couple things off my desk that I needed to get to. I will say that I am jut not feeling it today. I hope you get your desk and office situated!

I am sooo behind! On pretty much everything. I’m visiting family at the moment, and trying to at least get some of my overdue reviews written. Sounds like you’ve started to make a dent in your To Do list, though—well done!
