January 6, 2019 Sunday Post 12

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

 My Week

With Robin feeling better, this week has been better than the last. We celebrated New Year’s Eve over at my sister’s house, then drove back to my parents through 6+ inches of new snow. By morning, the storm had dropped a good 20 inches of snow; by the end of the day, the total was nearly 2 feet… on top of the foot of snow left by the two storms during Christmas week. We spent January 1 happily snowed in (and digging out). Because of the volume of snow to be cleared from parking lots and roads, Robin’s workplace was closed on Jan. 2 and 3, so we got two extra days together before Robin returned to work on Friday. We spent several afternoons and evenings at my sister’s house, playing games and just enjoying being together.

Mr. Bookwyrm and I are headed home from New Mexico today, so I won’t be visiting or replying to comments until later in the week. I’ve got a lot of indexing work to make up this coming week, as well as unpacking and doing laundry after a whole month away, but I’ll try to make time to visit you all sometime this week.

The reading challenge I host has made the big time! (Well, sort of.) A Minnesota county library listed The Backlist Reader Challenge on their blog, right after Book Riot’s Read Harder challenge and the Popsugar reading challenge! They only listed six challenges total (besides their own), so I’m really flattered—and surprised.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished rereading The Black Gryphon (Mercedes Lackey)  as well as the sequel, The White Gryphon. I also read The Best of Us (Robyn Carr; ARC), which I’ll be reviewing on Monday. I’m currently reading Cyanide with Christie (Katherine Bolger Hyde; ARC.) So I’ve hit all three of my main genres in the first week of the year: fantasy, romance, and mystery.

The Perils of Pleasure by Julie Ann Long and my Ngaio Marsh series reread are both on hiatus for now.

Listening to: nothing last week, but I’ll be listening to Founding MothersThe Women Who Raised Our Nation by Cokie Roberts in the coming week.

Watching: We saw Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse in the local movie theater. Other than that, I’ve only watched the first episode of The Good Place (season 1.)

Backlist Reader Challenge

Signups for The Backlist Reader Challenge 2019 are still open! If you want to tackle those older titles on your TBR pile, this is a great way to do it. Signups stay open well into 2019, but after this week, I’ll no longer post the link on Sundays. It will still be in the sidebar, though.

I love snow! I especially love looking at snow from inside a cozy, warm house! 😀 I hope your first week back from break goes (or went?) well.

Oh my! You got some snow! Hope you stay warm and safe. Happy new year!

    Happy New Year, Lark!

Wow! You got a lot of snow there. We haven’t had enough snow to even cover our grass! The snow track is taking a more southern route so far. I’m glad Robin is feeling better. It sounds like your visit was good even though Robin was sick Christmas week. I hope your trip home went well and that you’re getting all the things done you need to.

Have a great week and I hope you get to read a few books this week!

You got more snow than we did here in Salt Lake City. (Although it is snowing again as I write this.) Hope you have a good week! 🙂

Safe travels! That’s awesome about your challenge!! I haven’t signed up for any yet, so I might join yours. I’ve joined it before, but it’s been a while. I’m so terrible at keeping on top of those. Anyway, again travel safely and have a wonderful week!

We had a LOT of snow! More than they’ve gotten in that town in the last several winters. The skiers must have been ecstatic. (The local ski hill can’t make snow, so it only opens when they get enough.)
