January 12, 2020 Sunday Post 10

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

We flew home from New Mexico on Monday. Mr. Bookwyrm is back at work, and I have a short break before my next index arrives this coming week. I spent the week and weekend unpacking, doing laundry and thinking about music for this season’s choral concert… and doing other catch-up and creative stuff here and there. I made a delicious chicken stew from a recipe I found online; we went out for dinner with Mr. Bookwyrm’s coworkers; and I’ve been knitting, mostly on our great-niece’s baby blanket.

I haven’t taken down the Christmas tree or the scene yet. I decided I wanted to enjoy it for a little while longer, since we were away during Christmas. I’m hoping to have a friend or two over this coming week, so I’ll wait until after that. Toward the end of the week, I’ll start taking it all down and packing it away until next year.

I’ve been in a bit of a reading slump since before Christmas. I’m trying to get my verve back. It may be time for a binge reread of some series or other… if I can just figure out which one.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished rereading Take a Thief by Mercedes Lackey and Little Men by Louisa May Alcott. Currently, I’m reading Angel in a Devil’s Arms (Julie Ann Long; ARC) and The Case of the Spellbound Child (Mercedes Lackey; library.) (Click titles for Goodreads or my review links.)

Listening: I still haven’t gotten back to The Wilhelm Conspiracy, but I will.

Watching: Warehouse 13 (Season 2), and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Season 1.)

Playing: Now that vacation is over, I have got to quit playing Merge Magic. It’s much too addictive, and it’s eating up time I could be spending reading.

Added to the Hoard

I managed an entire week without buying any Kindle books or getting any ARCs! I did pick up a couple of holds from the library (below), and I’m still waiting for some other holds to come in.

And then there’s this lovely. In November, I ordered a copy of Howl’s Moving Castle from The Folio Society as a Christmas gift for Robin. A shipping mix-up resulted in it getting marked undeliverable and sent back to The Folio Society (in England!) I contacted them right away and had them send another. The new copy arrived in time for Christmas… followed by the original copy, which FedEx said they had sent back as undeliverable. Apparently they didn’t send it back after all, and had finally figured out where to deliver it. Anyway, I contacted The Folio Society and offered to send the extra copy back, but they told me I could keep it. So… Merry Christmas to me!

Library Haul

When my computer died late last summer, I lost my ARC of The Dog Who Lost His Bark. (Apologies for the inadvertent rhyme!) So I borrowed it from the library. Click to see on Goodreads: The Case of the Spellbound Child; The Dog Who Lost His Bark.

Have a great week!

I’m so impressed that you ended up TWO wonderful copies of Howl’s Moving Castle, which is such a lovely book… I took my decorations down last Sunday as I was brought up to consider it very unlucky to keep the decorations up after 6th Jan – I wish I didn’t, as with the gloomy days, it would be lovely to have the glittering lights going well into January to brighten up such a DARK month! Have a great week, Lark:)

Well, one copy is Robin’s, and they live 2000 miles away, so I don’t exactly have two! 😀 I didn’t know that it was considered unlucky to keep the Christmas decorations up past Epiphany; how interesting! I may be taking them down earlier than the end of the week, if my friend can’t make it this week.

Reading slumps are the worst. Hope you find the right book to pull you out of yours. 🙂

We still have you tree up as well as we wanted to enjoy it a bit longer too. I am sorry to hear about your reading slump. I hope you can get out of it son and find the book that gets you out of it.

I hope you had a lovely time in New Mexico! Sorry, I haven’t stopped by your blog in ages! I’ve been so erratic and out of any kind of blogging/visiting pattern for a while now… 🙁

Fingers crossed the reading slump passes and you can get back to enjoying some good books.

I didn’t manage to get our decorations down like I intended last weekend. They are still up, in fact. I want to keep the tree up awhile longer, but I may at least take the ornaments off. I hope you are able to get out of the slump you are in. I hope you enjoy your reading, Lark. Have a great week!

My Christmas decorations are finally down, but they’re in a box in the middle of the living room. I’ve been too busy to drag them down into the basement, so I’ve just been working around them. I hope you have a great week!
