October 4, 2020 Sunday Post 12

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

I got a lot more blogging done this week, but unfortunately, no reviews. Other than that, the week was pretty uneventful — at least on a personal level! Politically, of course, it has been beyond bizarre, and everything that has happened is only going to throw more chaos and stress into an already fraught election. I’m still shaking my head over Trump’s behavior at the debate. And then the news that he, the First Lady, and a growing number of politicians and White House staff have tested positive for COVID-19, with all the potential implications should he become seriously ill… If you haven’t gathered by now, I am not a Trump fan. I think he has badly mishandled the pandemic response, and his own behavior (holding rallies and public events, not wearing a mask) likely contributed to his becoming infected—but I still wouldn’t wish this virus on anyone.

Speaking of which… Greg @ Book Haven has tested positive, so pop over and wish him a speedy recovery.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished Who Wants to Marry a Duke (Sabrina Jeffries; ARC), which I reread because I had forgotten to review it or even write notes on it, and then started Cinders and Sparrows (Stefan Bachmann; ARC), which I interrupted to read my preordered copy of Once Dishonored by Mary Jo Putney. After that, I started a reread of Nora Roberts’s Cousins O’Dwyer series about a trio of witches; I plan to reread these and Deborah Harkness’s All Souls Trilogy as my witchy reads for October. I still need to finish The Language of Ghosts (Heather Fawcett; ARC) and get back to An Extraordinary Union (Alyssa Cole). (Click title for Goodreads page or my review.)

Listening: I finished His Burial Too by Catherine Aird, and started Passing Strange, from the same series. I need to get back to Binti (Nnedi Okorafor) at some point.

Watching: We’re still continuing with Warehouse 13 and Aerial America, plus the usual Stephen Colbert and Trevor Noah.

In a term filled with outrageous things and stuff coming out almost everyday, Trump really outdid himself this week! I hope we’re getting accurate information about his condition, because there already seem to be some conflicting reports and now is not the time for him to be lying again.

I am with you on the handling, I am not even sure if what they are saying is true about how he is. I don’t wish ill on anyone but he made his bed.

I grabbed Spellbreaker too and I can’t wait to read Cinder and Sparrows.

Have a great week, Lark! Happy Reading!

I need to pick out some books for October. I am reading a Vampire book at the moment so maybe that counts??! I totally agree with you and all you said about Trump. I don’t wish him harm, but I don’t want him elected again. Cinders and Sparrows has a great cover.

I hope you have a great week, Lark!

I’m with you 100% on the pandemic mishandling, the poor behavior at the debate and failing to protect those in his circle. I am still considering which First Read to get but that is one I may get. You can choose 2 this month, FYI. Have a lovely week!

I’m not a fan of Trump either, he’s just a terrible person on so many levels, IMO.

The Nora Roberts series looks good and In the Balance reminds me of an Agatha Christie. I hope you enjoy both! Thanks for visiting my Sunday Post! 🙂

I feel the same way. I wouldn’t wish it on anyone but I hate how this pandemic has been mismanaged- I keep thinking how many lives could have been saved if we had had real leadership?

So many things going on in 2020, I just want a do-over please. I need to get back to blogging too, but it’s been slow motion. I’ve been slacking on my own blogging, but still trying to get over to visit my blogger buds when I can. Then I’ve been known to read or watch Netflix more than I should(lol), when I need to be working a little more on my business. Be well and stay safe, my friend. Hugs, RO

I couldn’t agree more about Trump. And now, his behavior with COVID. It’s offensive to the hundreds of thousands who have died (I feel like I read that 1 million world wide had died?), the way he says not to let it control your life and he feels better than he has in 20 years. He has access to better treatments than pretty much everyone, far superior than most.

    Anyway… Hope you’re having a good week!

I read In the Balance recently and loved it! Somehow it was the first read for me. It’s very gloriously Wentworth-ish though it did annoy me a bit that Miss Silver did not take the most active of roles in the investigation. When we were home this weekend I found a Catherine Aird on my shelves that I had forgotten about so I grabbed that one up. Can’t wait to read it. Hope you have a lovely week and some time to relax.
