Last Week
Sorry I am so late posting this, but we spent the weekend (and last Monday as well) car shopping. It took a lot of research and several test drives, but we finally decided on the car we want. The local dealer is getting it in from another dealer, since the local place didn’t have the color and trim level we wanted. We should be able to sign the paperwork later this week.
I’m not sure which was scarier about the whole car-buying process: the risk of contracting COVID (which frankly terrifies me) while we were out and about, or the sticker shock. This is—or will be, once we finish paying for it—the most we have ever paid for a new car, even allowing for inflation. But we are really happy with our choice.

What I’m Reading/Watching
Reading: I reread the All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness: A Discovery of Witches, Shadow of Night, and The Book of Life (all of which I reviewed years ago.) Then I started the sequel/companion novel, Time’s Convert. It’s good, but after a night when my brain simply wouldn’t shut down, I decided I’d had enough of vampires for the time being, so it’s hibernating for now. Instead, I switched to something less likely to keep me awake at night: Parting Breath, an Inspector Sloan mystery by Catherine Aird. Next up are A Darker Shade of Magic (V. E. Schwab) and Homicide in Hardcover (Kate Carlisle) for the COYER Book Club (both first-time reads), and The Duke and I (Julia Quinn; reread) for a Bridgertons group read on Instagram.
I still need to finish Cinders and Sparrows (Stefan Bachmann; ARC) and The Language of Ghosts (Heather Fawcett; ARC) before the end of October, and get back to An Extraordinary Union (Alyssa Cole). (Click title for Goodreads page or my review.)
Listening: I am between halfway and two-thirds of the way through Catfishing on CatNet by Naomi Kritzer, and loving it… although the tension is definitely ratcheting up at this point. I also need to get back to Binti (Nnedi Okorafor) at some point.
Watching: We’re still continuing with Warehouse 13 and Aerial America, and we are rewatching All Creatures Great and Small.
