Sunday Post – 10/28/2018

October 28, 2018 Sunday Post 8

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimba, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

 My Week

It’s been a week of lots of freelance work. When I’ve come up for air, I’ve watched comfort movies, read one of my comfort books, knitted, and spun… Still missing our kitty Tasha (who died on the 19th, if you missed last week’s Sunday Post.)

On a happier note, we celebrated my birthday this weekend. Robin and my parents sent lovely, thoughtful gifts that I will really enjoy, and Mr. Bookwyrm gave me two books I’ve had on my wish list for a while. But the most exciting gift is that after Thanksgiving, he’s taking me for a “Falconry Experience” — an hour or so to see the birds close up, see them fly, and even get to have one perch on me. I’ve wanted to do this for ages, but didn’t know of anywhere around here that offered these kind of hawk walks. I am over the moon about this! (There may have been some squee-ing involved.)

Halloween is this week, and I am SO not ready. I hope I can squeeze out time to clean up and decorate the living room and porch and carve the jack o’lantern before the trick-or-treaters come. I also have choir practice that night.

Challenge Update

Well, I’m pretty much bombing my challenges at this point. I utterly failed Blog Ahead with only 2.5 posts completed, and I read only a couple of ARCs for ARCtober. Worst, I’m really behind on The Backlist Reader Challenge, which is super embarrassing because I’m the host.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I reread an old favorite, Pilgrim’s Inn by Elizabeth Goudge. It’s the first of her adult novels I ever read; I read it first in high school and it has been one of my comfort books ever since.

Listening to: I finished The Fated Sky by Mary Robinette Kowal. It’s a sequel to The Calculating Stars and it’s excellent. I was enjoying it so much, I was sorry to finish it! Now I have to wait until 2020 for another book in the series (The Relentless Moon), though it won’t be from the same main character’s point of view.

Watching: I’ve watched several Miss Marple movies this week: A Murder Is AnnouncedMurder at the Vicarageand The 4:50 From Paddington… knitting or spinning while I watched them. That, combined with the amount of work I have, is why I’ve only finished 2 books this week.

Gifts

I can’t wait to dive in to the Muirteach MacPhee mysteries that my mom sent. And they are even signed! Unbound is book 3 in a series; I have the rest of the series, but have been holding off on reading 4 because I didn’t have 3 yet. Now I do. And that Little Women edition is just so pretty! Plus the print is a readable size.  (Please pardon the terrible photo. I had to take it at night. Also, yes, that is an ex-library book on the right. Our family is just fine with some gift books being previously loved.)

Purchased for Kindle

Have a good week, and happy reading!

That Falconry adventure sounds so cool! I hope you have an awesome time. And take some pics! (‘Cause I’m a little green with envy and want to experience it vicariously.) 😀

So romantic that your hubby truly “gets you”. Happy belated birthday to you! Kudos on lots of freelance work, which is perfect for job security, right?(lol) This weekend I started up my annual Hallmark Channel Christmas Program watching of repeats and new shows. I also slipped in Sabrina on Netflix, which was something else!(lol) Something about it relaxes me and reminds me of the good in life. Hope your week is amazing as you are! Hugs…RO

Happy birthday! You have so many good-looking books. Enjoy!

I’m enjoying the lovely cooler weather and it makes me want to knit but not with this week’s full schedule. Plus I am trying to squeeze in just a few more posts for Blog Ahead. We will see.

I bought a few cool decorations last year on sale for Halloween but I’ll be working. My daughter will be offering the candy so I should try to put them up.

Have a great week! Anne – Books of My Heart

Sorry about the VERY late comment – I was away last weekend so am still trying to catch up! A belated Happy Birthday and the falconry session sounds fabulous:).

I haven’t read that particular Elizabeth Goudge – my favourite of hers is The Middle Window which I read and reread in my late teens and early 20s and cried every time… I hope Halloween went off well and that you have had a good week – looking forward to touching base with you tomorrow!
