November 22, 2020 Sunday Post 6

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

I continued my Christmas shopping this week…online, of course. You would think online shopping would be quicker, but it seems to take me longer. I’ve got most of my side of the family finished. I still need to shop for Robin and Mr. Bookwyrm, though.

I’ve also been knitting, spinning, and trying to tidy up before Thanksgiving. I won’t start decorating for Christmas until after Thanksgiving. I want to enjoy autumn a little longer, and the tree and the scene take up a fair bit of space and require rearranging the furniture. (I’m not judging those of you who have started decorating, though! Whatever helps you cope with this annus horribilis…)

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I skipped past An Offer from a Gentleman in the Bridgerton group (re)read, and continued on with Romancing Mister Bridgerton, one of my all-time favorite romances. I’ll go back and read Benedict’s book later. After that, I started this coming week’s Bridgerton book, To Sir Phillip, With Love, as well as an ARC of Mercedes Lackey’s latest Elemental Masters novel, Jolene, a retelling of the Queen of the Copper Mountain fairytale. And I began my reading for the Ho-Ho-Ho Readathon with Christmas at Holiday House (RaeAnne Thayne; ARC), which I had been saving for the readathon. (Click title for Goodreads page or my review.)

I still plan to finish Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert (ARC), but perhaps not until after the #HoHoHoRAT.

Listening to: The Windsor Knot, a mystery by S. J. Bennett featuring Queen Elizabeth as the amateur detective.

Watching: We went back to Aerial America for a few episodes, particularly the two on Alaska. I think we were both needing a change of scenery! We also watched another episode of All Creatures Great and Small (the older one from the 1970s, not this year’s remake.)

Playing: I miss playing games with Robin and my sister’s family (which is one of our family activities when we are visiting out there.) So I added Carcassonne, one of our favorites, to my tablet. Maybe by the time I can finally see them all again, I will have learned enough strategy (by playing the AI) to actually win occasionally. Robin is very, very good at strategy and spatial relationships, which makes them a formidable opponent!

Added to the Hoard

Purchased (Kindle, print, or audio)

Kindle: How to Knit a Murder; City of Secrets; Frostgilded Audiobooks (Audible, Libro.fm, or Chirp): (Click title for Goodreads page or my review.)

Stay safe, stay healthy, stay kind… and may you find books a haven in the coming weeks.

I think we’ll probably start decorating for Christmas after Thanksgiving, too – I’m looking forward to putting up the lights outside!

I’m glad I have no one to shop for but my daughter. It simplifies things in a year like this one. We often make our gifts as we have the things we need usually. I also don’t decorate until after Thanksgiving. I usually don’t read holiday books until December but I am doing the HoHoHoRAT this year.

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you have a wonderful and restful week!

Normally, I would have had the outside decorations done by now, but for some reason it hasn’t happened yet. Like you, I’ve been doing some online shopping, but it takes me a super long time to find the perfect thing for a few people, so I find myself studying magazines for ideas more than usual these days.(lol) I was thrilled when I was able to snag one of my favorite author’s new book the day after it was released, and I jumped right on reading that! Like you, I did throw in a couple of Christmas reads. Stay safe and be well. Hugs, RO

I’ve been putting off my Christmas decorating, too. Part of me wants the pretty lights NOW (and has since Halloween) but the bigger part of me wants to stick to my traditions, and so I’ll be spending the day after Thanksgiving putting up the lights (and maybe the tree… we have an artificial one) and then that weekend sending out my first batch of Christmas cards. Right now, with 2020 being the way it is, I really need my routines.

I picked up Frostgilded, too. The author said it had been described as a “warm hug” and I really need that right now so I bought the whole series. I think I’ll be starting it soon.

Somehow I don’t have the energy to clean up much, but I’ll soon be ordering online for the Christmas presents. I see you’re reading Julia Quinn’s Bridgertons, I loved the first two and need to read the rest. Take care 🙂
