November 29, 2020 Sunday Post 3

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

Sorry I am late posting this! We had a nice, lazy weekend.

I hope all of of you in the US had a safe and happy Thanksgiving. Mr. Bookwyrm and I stayed quietly at home, as we have since Robin first went off to college seven or eight years ago. We Facetimed with Robin for an hour in the morning, and cooked a full Thanksgiving meal: turkey with all our traditional side dishes. We’re still eating the leftovers (which are delicious.) We spoke with my mom and stepdad during the Facetime call, and with my dad and stepmom later in the weekend. And we started a 750-piece jigsaw puzzle, a photo of Eilean Donan Castle in Scotland, which is challenging but fun. We are more than halfway done, but the most challenging part—the sky—still lies ahead.

Other than that, it was a relatively quiet week. I did some Christmas shopping online, and took advantage of the Black Friday sales to buy way too many Kindle books. The shawlette/scarf I’m knitting is almost done, and I have a bunch of other projects to finish up, plus the Christmas decorating still to do.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: To Sir Philip, With Love was up for the #MeetTheBridgertons series (re)read over on Instagram. I finished it early in the week. For the Ho-Ho-Ho Readathon, I read The Christmas Wishing Tree by Emily March. (To be honest, I reread it, since I never got around to reviewing it the first time. I had honestly forgotten practically everything except who the hero was, so it felt like reading it for the first time. I rarely forget a book that completely, but I think I may have been struggling with my anxiety when I read it last.) After that, I reread Nightingale Way by Emily March on a whim. In the coming week I’ll be reading A Deadly Edition for my December 8 blog tour post.

Listening to: The Windsor Knot, a mystery by S. J. Bennett featuring Queen Elizabeth as the amateur detective.

Watching: We didn’t watch much this week, just a little Aerial America. Last night, we started the Christmas-movie season with Frosty the Snowman.

Playing: Carcassonne and Merge Magic, and working on a jigsaw puzzle.

Crafting: Knitting a shawlette, using my own handspun yarn.

For Review or Consideration

Thank you to Avon for Ten Things I Hate About the Duke and Act Your Age, Eve Brown.

Purchased (Kindle, print, or audio)

Black Friday proved an irresistible temptation to buy Kindle books…especially when Open Road Media put nearly half of Ngaio Marsh’s Alleyn mysteries on sale. I already had some of them, but I snapped up all the sale books I didn’t already own. Now I can let go of my paperbacks and 3-in-1 hardcovers with too-small print. (Note: I haven’t added the Ngaio Marsh covers or links yet, but I’m working on it. Check back in a few days.)

Kindle: Murder in the Locked Library; A Study in Death; Joust; A Tangled Web; What Angels Fear; The Alice Network; A Memory Called Empire; My Fake Rake; Murder in the Mews; Dumb Witness; The Will and the Deed; Murder at the Breakers; Let Us Dream; Overture to Death; Tied Up in Tinsel; Scales of Justice; Clutch of Constables; Death of a Fool; Singing in the Shrouds; Swing, Brother, Swing; Last Ditch; Photo Finish Audiobooks (Audible, Libro.fm, or Chirp): (Click title for Goodreads page or my review.)

Stay safe, stay healthy, stay kind… and may you find books a haven in the coming weeks.
