Last Week
We decorated the tree and put up the scene this week, beginning last Sunday. The scene is a several-generation family tradition. It started with my grandparents, with houses and villages my uncle B made beginning in his teens or twenties. I have some of my uncle’s creations, and some ceramic and resin houses as well. When adding figures and trees (or even houses), we focus less on scale and more on charm and appeal. This is the first time I’ve put up our scene in years. We stopped seven or eight years ago, when we began going to my parents’ house every Christmas; it seemed like too much effort if we weren’t going to be home to enjoy it. I decided to put it up this year anyway, because I miss doing it.
I’m a bit frantic about how much I have to accomplish this week — an index, most of my Christmas shopping, and packing for holiday traveling. I love the holidays, but I always end up with so much to do at the last minute!

What I’m Reading/Watching
Reading: I read Nancy Naigle’s Christmas Angels (ARC) (and already reviewed it!) and also Death with Dostoevsky by Katherine Bolger Hyde (ARC, not yet reviewed.) I also reread Scandalous Lord Dere (a short novella by Stephanie Laurens) and started rereading Hercule Poirot’s Christmas by Agatha Christie — the latter for the Reading the Detectives book group on Goodreads. Listening: The Wilhelm Conspiracy, the second book in the “Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James” series. After that, I may try How the Dukes Stole Christmas, which I bought from Avon’s Kiss Club on Libro.fm back in July.
Watching: We finished Season 1 of Warehouse 13 and went on to Season 2.

Love your tree! And that little village beneath it is so cute. I just finished reading Hercule Poirot’s Christmas for the first time. I thought it was a very fun mystery. And funnily enough, I’ve been re-watching Warehouse 13 seasons myself; I just finished season 3 last week and will be starting season 4 this week. 😀

Wow! That is a great Christmas scene under the tree! I cut way back on my decor and donated a lot of it when I moved back down to Oregon this summer. Once of the things I no longer have is my village. There’s a part of me that misses it, but I really have no where for it to go.

Your tree scene looks amazing! I don’t do much decorating these days (we live in a small condo and don’t get many visitors) but I did put up our tree this past weekend. I love the atmosphere that even just that adds to the house.
