 My Week

We had a few days of warmer (much warmer!) weather, but now it’s cooled off again…although not nearly as cold as that arctic blast we had last week. This coming week looks like it will warm up a little again, to the mid-40s by tomorrow, and the mid-50s by the end of the week. Typical winter weather in Virginia: it can’t make up its mind when to begin spring.

Other than that, I have absolutely nothing interesting to report; it’s been a pretty average week. I’m working through the weekend again, but that’s starting to feel normal, too, darn it. Somehow, I need to organize my time better.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I continued bingeing through a reread of Jayne Castle’s Ghost Hunters/Harmony series, which fit in nicely with the COYER “It’s all about LOVE” readathon. As you can see, I’ve been going through them like candy—it’s the one silver lining in the insomnia cloud, I guess. All those books bumped up my Goodreads Challenge percentage; now I’m only one book behind schedule, instead of nine books behind as I was a few weeks ago.

In new-to-me books, I started Rhys Bowen’s The Victory Garden, which I’ll be reviewing for a tour next week.  And a bunch of library holds came in all at once. Wouldn’t you know, I can’t afford the time to read any of them right now… but of course, I dipped into A Stash of One’s Own, a collection of essays by knitters about their yarn stashes, and I was immediately hooked.

Listening to:  Founding Mothers: The Women Who Raised Our Nation by Cokie Roberts.

Watching: We watched the Super Bowl, more or less—I read my book more than I watched. It wasn’t a very interesting game, and I’m not much of a football fan anymore anyway. On the bright side, we’ve been watching Eureka, Season 1, which we are really enjoying.

Library Books

A lot of my holds came in, as I mentioned. I forgot to adjust the “pause hold” dates (oops.) I’m only posting this book, because it’s the only one I think I’ll have time to finish before they have to go back to the library.

If you buy or already own a Kindle book, you can sometimes buy the Audible edition at a discount, right on the Amazon website (or on the Audible website, assuming you’ve linked your accounts.) I picked up these two up when I bought the Kindle books.

The Jayne Castle book was to fill out the series I’ve been rereading. Something Wonderful is the story of Rodgers and Hammerstein. I grew up listening to and singing their songs from a very early age. Their musicals, along with a few by other composers, had a profound impact on my love for theater and for singing, so I can’t wait to read this book. And Tamora Pierce is one of my favorite authors, as well as Robin’s; we both reread them every few years. So when the entire Immortals quartet went on sale for $2 each for Kindle, I had to grab them.

    I’ve never read Tamora Pierce and I feel I should… Something Wonderful also looks like a really enjoyable, uplifting read – I also grew up with their wonderful music as my grandparents were fans:). Have a great week.

    I see you are binge-reading through some good series. I haven’t read her in her Castle nom de plume before, but they sure do look good! Enjoy a hopefully-slower week of indexing and reading (and knitting).

      Well, I don’t know about slower, but yes, I’ll be indexing, reading, knitting and spinning this week! Probably more of the first two than the latter two, just based on available time.

    The weather can’t seem to make up it’s mind at all. I think I am over this crazy weather. I don’t mind winter but the up and down is driving me crazy. 🙂

      I feel the same way. I love winter; I love spring. But make up your mind, Mother Nature—I don’t know what clothes to put away or get out!

    I hate it when too many library books come in at once. I don’t have too many library books on hold right now since I have so many books I got for $2 on Kindle, but there are two I’m waiting for right now. I don’t think they’ll come in all at once though.

    Slow weeks are good weeks. A little bit of reading and settling into a rhythm with work sounds great to me. 🙂

    I love how audible books are less expensive if you own the kindle. I’m not a big audiobooker but the kid is and it comes in handy!
