My Week

Yesterday, our cable modem went on the fritz, making our internet slow as molasses — when it wasn’t out altogether, which was about every five minutes. Unfortunately, that meant I wasn’t able to do the Zoom play reading of Arsenic and Old Lace. (Darn it, I was looking forward to that!) But Mr. Bookwyrm spent some time on the phone with the tech support people from the cable internet company, and they pinned it down to the actual modem. So Mr. Bookwyrm went to Best Buy and bought a new one, and now we are up and running again.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I read three ARCs this week: Once a Laird (Mary Jo Putney) and The Forbidden and The Unknown (Heather Graham.) And I reread Devil in Disguise (Lisa Kleypas; ARC) to refresh my memory so I can write a review before it is released on Tuesday. (And also because I really loved it.) Plus, I continued my reread of the Mary Russell & Sherlock Holmes series by Laurie R. King, finishing up O Jerusalem this week.

    I love the cover of that Rhys Bowen. I read the Christmas one and liked it, always meant to read more of ’em.

    There’s nothing worse than slow or non-existent internet when you had fun plans, especially over the last pandemic year where outside isn’t really an option xD Glad you guys managed to find the issue and fix it though! ‘A Vow so Bold and Deadly’ looks amazing, I really need to get into this series asap.

      Especially these days — it’s not just for information and recreation, but also for social contact. We’re still attending church online, and we had a family Zoom this evening. And of course, there was COYER book club this afternoon, too! 🙂

    Oh that’s too bad about missing out on the Arsenic and Old Lace reading. Hopefully you can do a rewatch of the movie soon to make up. Cary Grant becoming more and more disheveled as the movie develops is one of my favorite things in film. Glad Mr. Bookwyrm was able to pinpoint the problem. I’m almost done with The Pirate King and am liking it but it doesn’t really seem to fit the series. It seems a little farce-y or something? I do need to go back and reread the earlier books. It’s probably been 20 years since I read the earlier books and I’m not entirely sure I ever read them in order since I was using either a used bookstore or the library for reading and so I was kind of at the mercy of availability.     Internet being down is so frustrating – it’s hard to belive there was a time we rarely used it. Now I feel like we use it for everything! Glad you were able to get it up and running again!
