August 29, 2021 Sunday Post 6

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

My Week

This current project is turning my hair grey. (Well, greyer.) I’m still enmeshed in it, but the end is finally in sight. Which means I might have a little time for other things by the end of the week.

My thoughts are with all the people in the path of Hurricane Ida, and in the path of the fires out West. May they be safe through storm, wind, rain, flood, and fire, and their aftermath.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished The Duchess War (Courtney Milan) for this weekend’s COYER Book Club. I liked it so much that I promptly bought most of the rest of the series! I also read The Family You Make (Jill Shalvis; ARC) and The Solstice Countdown (Lisa Shearin; review copy.) I started Pirate King (Laurie R. King) for my Mary Russell series reread, but it’s my least favorite of the books, and I’m having a hard time sticking with it. I also started Thursday’s Child by Noel Streatfeild (review copy), which I probably would have loved as a child.

Listening to: A Grave Matter by Anna Lee Huber, narrated by Heather Wilds.

Watching: We’re rewatching Planet Earth (a documentary series), because I needed something undemanding and easy to stop in mid-episode, so I could get back to work after dinner.

I really enjoy Rosamunde Pilcher’s book and Voices in Summer sounds like it’s right up my alley! Thank you for sharing!

Sorry to take so long to reply! I just finished up the SPI Files series (until the next one comes out, at least.) It’s light(ish) and fun.

I read Pirate King a couple of months ago and it didn’t even feel like the same series! I’ve got Garment of Shadows coming up and I’m curious to see how that goes. I’ve been reading the Rosamunde Pilcher single books and they are so dated but Pilcher pulls me in without fail. I hope this week is much calmer for you!

Agreed; Pirate King just doesn’t fit the series vibe. Garment of Shadows is a return to form, although I was… dismayed by one character’s choices/actions.

The early Pilcher books are dated, but still so good and often comforting.
