September 5, 2021 Sunday Post 22

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

My Week

Well, I finally got the index finished and turned in. I have barely done anything else in weeks… although I did manage to read a lot this week, mostly because I wasn’t sleeping well. So I’m taking this week off to relax. I spent most of yesterday reading, napping, or spinning; it was heavenly! And the weather was gorgeous, too. If it’s still nice this afternoon, I may spin outside on the porch for a bit. I have also promised to cut Mr. Bookwyrm’s hair. I also have some work to do for my Spinners and Weavers Guild (of which I am currently one of the officers.)

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished rereading Pirate King (Laurie R. King) for my Mary Russell series reread. I read The Grendel Affair by Lisa Shearin. But I was feeling so stressed out from work that I wasn’t sleeping well, so I decided to reread my favorite books from Mary Balogh’s Survivors Club series: The Arrangement; The Escape; Only Enchanting; Only A Promise, and Only Beloved. There are two others in the series, but neither was calling to me right now; maybe I’ll go back and reread them later. (The links to the Survivor’s Club titles are to my reviews, except the last one, which apparently I never reviewed when I first read it. Maybe I’ll write a review for it this week.)

I’ll get back to Sorcerer to the Crown at some point, maybe even this week.

Listening to: A Grave Matter, by Anna Lee Huber.

podcasts: Smart Bitches, Trashy Podcast

Watching: We have been rewatching Planet Earth (a documentary series from almost 15 years ago); I needed something undemanding and easy to stop in mid-episode, so I could get back to work after dinner. Now that the index is done, we’ll finish up Planet Earth before moving on to something else.

For Review or Consideration

Many thanks to Crooked Lane for Shadow in the Glass!

Purchased (Kindle, print, or audio)

Kindle: The Dragon Conspiracy; The Brimstone Deception. (Click title for Goodreads page)

Stay safe, stay healthy, stay kind… and may you find books a haven in the coming weeks.

Balance seems to be a pipe dream when you freelance. I’m either swamped, or have no work so I play catch-up on everything else lol!

I hope you have a wonderful and relaxing Labor Day weekend!

Planet Earth sounds wonderful. Those can be so relaxing. And educational

I know we watched the entire Planet Earth series back when we bought the DVD set, but I had forgotten some of the episodes. Some were very memorable, though, like the footage of the snow leopard chasing an antelope down a steep mountainside. Unfortunately, DVDs aren’t as durable as they were initially hyped to be, and some of these have become unplayable even though we only watched them once and are super-careful how we handle them. So there are some episodes we won’t be able to watch. 🙁

I love the Lady Darby by Anna Lee Huber series– have read all but newest one! I haven’t read her other series because I’m not a fan of turn of the century storylines, but that’s just me.

Your week sounds like heaven: reading, napping, crafting (spinning, you said, but I don’t know how to do that so will insert some other craft).
Enjoy your books, Lark, and stay safe.

I’m listening to the Lady Darby mysteries, and kind of stringing them out because I don’t want to run out of them too soon! I will probably try the Verity Kent books, too; I enjoy books set between the World Wars.

Enjoy the weather! I like being outside as much as I can during this time of year. I’ve watched some of the Planet Earth documentary, always interesting stuff. Happy reading this week.

Yay for finishing the index and for taking the week to relax! Sounds like it was seriously needed! I really need to get back to Mary Balogh’s books. She was one of my favorites but it’s been quite some time since I’ve read anything by her. I need to fix that! Hope you’re having a wonderful week!

Well, it didn’t turn out quite as relaxing as I planned, but it was a productive and interesting week… and just the relief from tension was great.
