The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

My Week

It’s still late summer here in Virginia: hot and humid, with temperatures in the mid 80s today. (At least it’s not the 90s!) But the Fall Equinox is only three days away. Next week looks to be lovely, with temperatures in the 70s. Fall color won’t really kick in until sometime in October. The trees are still green, but they look a little dry, less vibrantly green than in the height of summer; a few are slightly tinged with yellow or brown. I confess that I am eager for fall: for crisp, bright autumn days and colder nights, for hand knits and bright fall colors and the smell of burning leaves, for fresh apple cider and pumpkin donuts and toast slathered in apple butter.

Normally at this time of year, I would also be looking forward to the fall fiber festivals, but given the high Covid transmission rates in our area, I won’t be attending them for the second year in a row. I suppose I should look at it as an opportunity to spin and knit up some of my stash (and I do), but I will miss wandering the festivals, drinking in the beautiful colors and soft fibers and revelling in the presence of so many artisans and crafters and their amazing creations.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished several books in Lisa Shearin’s SPI Files series: The Brimstone Deception, The Ghoul Vendetta, and The Myth Manifestation, which all count toward the COYER “Finish What You Started” series-completion readathon. I’m currently about halfway through the sixth book, The Phoenix Illusion, which will bring me up to date, since I have already read the most recent one. I am partway into The Vanished Days (Susanna Kearsley; ARC), This Poison Heart (library book), and Scales and Sensibility (Stephanie Burgis; ARC.) (Click title for Goodreads page.)

Listening to: I finished A Grave Matter, by Anna Lee Huber, and started on book 4 in the series, A Study in Death. I also listened to several podcasts each from Smart Bitches, Trashy Podcast and 99% Invisible.

Watching: several more episodes of Foyle’s War, Season 1. It has been so long since we last watched it that I had forgotten many of the details of several episodes. It was also fun to see a younger, pre-Doctor David Tennant in the episode “A Lesson in Murder.”

      I am! Or rather, I was. I finished book 6 yesterday, and since I have already read book 7, I’m all caught up until the next one comes out. I may try her Raine Benares series, which was referred to in The Phoenix Illusion (I think. The details sort of run together in my mind when I binge a series like this.)

      Enjoy your spring weather! It’s one of my favorite times of year.

    I’m sorry you’re having to miss out on the fiber fests. It’s always good to find the silver lining but that doesn’t mean it’s not frustrating. I really need to read the Anna Lee Huber series. I’ve really enjoyed the later books but have never read the early books – even though I own most of them. Have a great week!

      It is frustrating, but I’m sure we’ll get back to fiber festivals someday. I have been enjoying the Huber books; I am glad you like the later books, because that means the series continues to be good!
