My Week

I started knitting a pair of socks for #Socktober, and I’m finishing up an index. And we are starting to think about visiting family out west sometime this fall/winter. It will have been two years by then, and that’s just too long.

Other than that, I have very little to report!

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished Face the Fire (a reread) and Say Yes to the Marquess (Tessa Dare), a buddy read with Berls from Because Reading and Lillian from YABC. I also read When You Wish Upon a Duke (Charis Michaels; ARC.) I’m still reading The Strange Case of the Alchemist’s Daughter (Theodora Goss), which I started for the COYER “Movie Monsters” readathon but didn’t finish in time.

I am one book behind on my Goodreads Challenge for the year — which is great, considering that in July and early August, I was ten books behind schedule! My other challenges aren’t going too well, though.

Listening to: To promote her new book, The Vanished Days, Susanna Kearsley did a Facebook live event on Tuesday with my local library. That, combined with my recent reading of the book, reminded me how very much I love her books, so I decided to revisit the ones I have already read or listened to. As a result, I’m currently listening to The Shadowy Horses for the second time. (Title links go to my reviews.)

    Oh I love the colors on that sock! I really want to get back to knitting but I just don’t know when I’d do it. I hope yall are able to travel back to see family, 2 years is a long time. I want us to travel soon, but I have a feeling it will be a bit before we’re ready to try and take Dante anywhere.

      Not to worry! When Dante is older, you’ll have a little more time to knit — during sports practices and music lessons and that sort of thing, if nothing else. I didn’t knit when Robin was a baby; I picked it up again when Robin was in 6th grade, to have something to do with my hands during ballet practices, and haven’t stopped knitting since.

      I don’t blame you for being cautious about traveling with Dante. I don’t think we would be going if we had a child too young to be vaccinated. As it is, the family members we are going to see are all vaccinated, and so are we. That doesn’t mean there’s no risk, but it’s lower, and we plan to be as careful as possible on the way out, minimizing our contact with other people as much as possible. Hopefully, we can get our booster shots before we go, and hopefully my parents and Robin will be able to get theirs as well. And we’ll call off the trip if it looks too risky (but I hope we don’t have to. I really, really need to hug my child again.)

      I look forward to seeing what you decide to knit, when you start! The yarn I’m using for the socks is Opal; they do a lot of self-striping and self-patterning sock yarns. I think I have another ball in a different colorway, too.

    Ooh Alchemist’s Daughter has me curious. that seems like something I’d like. 🙂 And I need to get some Christie books as well. I’ve been meaning to read some of her stuff…

    I’m glad you had a not much to report kind of week! Love the sock colors and hope that you are able to get the visit to see family worked out soon. 2 years is definitely too long! I love Agatha Christie’s short story collections and hope you enjoy that one. I haven’t read enough of Murder at Mallowan Hall to really have a feel for it but will update you as soon as I do. Have a wonderful week!
