November 21, 2021 Sunday Post 6

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

My Week

I’m sorry I was a no-show last Sunday. Things just got away from me, and then I got my booster shot on Sunday afternoon and was completely out of it on Monday. By Tuesday evening I was feeling mostly better, but by then I figured I might as well just roll everything into this Sunday’s post.

I can hardly believe that Thanksgiving is this week! We’re keeping it very small and quiet this year, since we’re doing a lot of decluttering and reorganizing around the house. (And of course, last year’s Thanksgiving was also quiet, because of the pandemic.) But the fact that it’s this week reminds me that I had better finish up my Christmas shopping ASAP!

Looking Ahead

  • Guild Boss, by Jayne Castle – review, tentative
  • Sunday Post – 11/28/2021 – very tentative

What I’ve Read (in the last 2 weeks)

Reading: Over the last two weeks, I reread Guild Boss (Jayne Ann Krentz; ARC) so I could write a review, which is still in the draft stage. I also read A Spindle Splintered (Alix F. Harrow), which was really good, and Someone to Romance (Mary Balogh), which I thought I had read already, but I discovered I had only started it the last time. And I read Boundaries (ARC), an anthology of stories set in the world of Mercedes Lackey’s Valdemar. Most of my reading time was spent listening to audiobooks. I just started The Christmas Bookshop (Jenny Colgan; ARC) for the Ho-Ho-Ho Readathon.

Listening to: I finished A Desperate Fortune by Susanna Kearsley, which I read a few years ago on Kindle. Then I listened to Bellewether, which I had also read before. Listening to them in close succession, and right after listening to The Firebird, I caught several connections between the books that I hadn’t spotted before, which delighted me. Now I’m listening to A Study in Death, the fourth Lady Darby mystery by Anna Lee Huber.

Added to the Hoard (since Oct. 31)

For Review or Consideration

Many thanks to Crooked Lane for The Shadow of Memory!

Purchased (Kindle, print, or audio)

Kindle: It looks like a lot, but I didn’t post my new books on November 7, and I didn’t do a Sunday Post at all last week, so this is actually 3 whole weeks of acquisitions. Pictured above: The Art of Betrayal; Time of Fog and Fire; A Deadly Brew; A Scot to the Heart; Hogfather; Still Life; Chaos Reigning; The Anatomy of Stretching; Tiger Eye; The Faded Map; Men at Arms; A Christmas Party; Mrs. Polifax Pursued; Castle Shade; Unravel the Dusk; The Midnight Bargain; An Unexpected Peril; Bookish and the Beast; A Holiday by Gaslight; Rare Danger; Ghost Seer (Click title for Goodreads page.)

Audiobooks: As above, this is three weeks’ worth. All were either on sale (through Chirp), or Audible books that were discounted heavily because I bought or already owned the Kindle edition. Pictured above: A Desperate Fortune; The House at Pooh Corner; When We Were Very Young & Now We Are Six; The Inimitable Jeeves; Castle Shade; Rare Danger; The Rose Garden (Click title for Goodreads page.)

Stay safe, stay healthy, stay kind… and may you find books a haven in the coming weeks.

Wow you have a great haul and seem to have been reading quite well. I can do audio while cleaning but my night time reading is deficient again. I am shocked it is already Thanksgiving this week. Thankfully, it will just be the two of us and quiet. Happy Thanksgiving!
