Sunday Post, 12/19/2021

The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

Last Week

We spent the past week in Utah with my dad and stepmother. They are in their early 90s, and I’m so glad that they are still able to live independently, though I worry about how long they can continue to manage on their own. Due to the pandemic, I hadn’t visited them since 2019; I was afraid I might never see them again. I’m so grateful to have had this time with them. We talked, did a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle, and just soaked up each other’s company.

And we got snow! This is the scene that greeted us on Wednesday morning. The forecast called for 2 to 5 inches, but we got at least 10 inches. It was gorgeous!

We drove back to New Mexico now, and will spend the holidays with Robin and my mom and stepdad, as well as my sister and her family. (They all live in the same town.) I’m soaking up the time with them, as well. Two years (or nearly) without seeing them was far too long.

I will continue focusing on my family while we are here with them, which means for the rest of the month. Expect to see an occasional year-end type of post, and maybe a review or two, but other than that, I’m basically taking a break from the blog for the next two weeks.

The Backlist Reader Challenge

This challenge is for classics you never got around to, for all those ARCs you should have read a couple of years ago, for that series your bestie has been insisting you read for the past decade or more… any and every book you’ve been intending to read for a while, as long as it’s on your TBR list and was published before 2020.

What I’m Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished The Christmas Bookshop by Jenny Colgan (ARC), as well as A Holiday in Gaslight by Mimi Matthews, which was a freebie back in November. I’m nearing the end of The Conductors (Nicole Glover; ARC.) I’m currently in the middle Ghost Killer, the third book in Robin D. Owens’s Ghost Seer urban fantasy series, and How The Scot Was Won, a novella by Caroline Linden.

Listening to: The Road to Little Dribbling by Bill Bryson. Great road-trip listening!

Watching: Not a lot… a retrospective on 20 years of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir’s Christmas concerts, and a concert by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra featuring music by Ellington, Gershwin, Stravinsky, and Eric Nathan.
