The Sunday Post is hosted by the wonderful Kimberly, the Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, recap the past week, take a look ahead, and showcase our new treasures—I mean books!

This Week

I stopped in at the used bookstore on my way home from a yearly check-up with one of my specialists. I found a couple of books for my Tolkien collection, and three for my vintage and antique children’s book collection. (You can see them below, under Additions to the Hoard.) I also found a present for Robin, a signed book by an author they love. (I don’t think Robin reads the blog often these days, if at all, so it’s probably safe to say that much—but just in case, I’m not going to name the author!)

We bought a new bed (mattress and frame) yesterday. It should be delivered in a few days. Hopefully it will be better than our old bed, which had become very uncomfortable, particularly for Mr. Bookwyrm. We went from a full to a queen size, so now we have to buy all new bedding, too. We got a set of sheets and a mattress pad last night, but we think we can make do with the current blanket and comforter until we find something we both like.

To my great dismay, something has gone wrong with the Gutenbee plugin I use to create photo galleries. Where once I could choose a justified gallery (so that all the images in a row are the same height) and set that height to a specific number of pixels, now all I can do is create columns of images. It doesn’t look nearly as nice, and for that, I apologize. I opened a thread on a support forum, and hopefully someone will figure out how to fix it. ETA: It appears to be fixed, so I was able to fix the galleries in this post.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I finished up Murphy’s Law (Rhys Bowen) last Sunday. I reread Amanda Quick’s “Ladies of Lantern Street” trilogy (paranormal historical romantic suspense): Crystal Gardens*, The Mystery Woman*, and Otherwise Engaged*, as well as standalones The Paid Companion and Garden of Lies*. I also read her Lake and Marsh trilogy, two of which I had not read before: Slightly Shady, Don’t Look Back, and Late for the Wedding. Listening to: Threads of Life: A History of the World Through the Eye of a Needle, by Clare Hunter.

Watching: All Creatures Great and Small Season 1.

    Used bookstores are so much fun, I’m glad you found some wonderful books. Mattresses are so important, I’m very picky on what I sleep on as a good night’s sleep is so critical to good health. I think your investment in the new bed will pay off quickly.

    I love used bookstores and what great books you found! Yay for the new mattress. We are finally home from the hospital and after a week sleeping on the couch in the room I’m so excited to sleep in my own bed with a decent mattress! I have pretty much all of Amanda Quick’s books on my TBR. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed the ones I’ve read. Have a great week!

      I’m still collecting print, but judiciously. I’m not buying mass market paperbacks, except occasionally (used) to read and pass along. I’m trying to focus on books I want to own, things I will treasure. And I need to do some pruning of my current shelves.

    Hooray for the used bookstore finds. It’s always fun to find some hidden gems. Buying a new bed is such a big purchase. Choosing a mattress actually causes me stress. lol I mean, you’re going to be spending a lot of time on it… it needs to be good. Hope you’re happy with the new one!

      Our first mattress lasted us about 25 years. The second one, a hybrid with a lot of foam, lasted about 5 years, but to be honest, neither of us was thrilled with it to begin with. I hope we’ll be happier with this one. In feel, it’s more like our first mattress.

      This was a particularly good haul. Sometimes I don’t find anything… though that’s in part because I’m getting pickier about what I collect.
