This Week

The play reading group met again on Wednesday night, reading Act 2 of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia. It’s an excellent play, and it was great fun to read it aloud.

The Spinners and Weavers Guild met yesterday morning, and one of the committees met earlier this week. And yesterday afternoon, we had a Zoom gathering with Mr. Bookwyrm’s side of the family – the first in about 9 months. So I’ve had a fairly busy social schedule, at least compared with most weeks!

The new bed is working out all right so far. Because we went up to a larger size bed, we needed new sheets and a mattress pad, but our old reversible quilted bedspread still works as a coverlet. So I dug out the pillow shams we never used, popped some old pillows into them, put our current (sleeping) pillows in front of them, threw a coordinating throw across one corner, and the bed looks pretty good nice for now. Once I find or make a couple of coordinating decorative pillows, it will look even better.

The deadline for my current project is rapidly approaching, so I will be pretty busy this week.

What I’ve Been Reading/Watching

Reading: I read The Belle of Belgrave Square (Mimi Matthews; ARC), Touchstones (Stephanie Burgis), and Magic Lost, Trouble Found (Lisa Shearin.) And I reread Destination Unknown (Agatha Christie) for #ReadChristie2022. I’m also counting Arcadia as finished this week. I’m currently reading Mistress of Birds, the newest Albion novel by Celia Lake.

Annabel at AnnaBookBel is leading a readalong of the Dark Is Rising series by Susan Cooper, starting this month. The series has long been a favorite of mine, so I plan to join in. We’ll be reading one book a month through December. August’s book is Over Sea, Under Stone, and the discussion on Annabel’s blog is on August 24, so I’ll reread it this week.

Listening to: Threads of Life: A History of the World Through the Eye of a Needle, by Clare Hunter.

Watching: We finished All Creatures Great and Small Season 1, and started Season 2.

    Nice that you were able to have a family get together over Zoom.

    That I, Robot cover is pretty wild! I like the first Agatha Christie one as well. That art style always appeals to me for whatever reason I guess.

      I’m sure an extrovert would think this was nowhere near enough socializing, but it was plenty for me! I work from home, so I get a lot of alone time, and my husband and I are both introverts, so even before the pandemic, we didn’t socialize that often. I do miss my choir rehearsals, though.

      This was just about the right amount of socializing for a week! Except when I visit my family, but since a lot of them are introverts, they understand the need for downtime. We’ve turned “introvert” into a verb, as in “I just need to introvert for a while.”

      Agatha Christie remains the Queen of Mystery, even now. I love revisiting her books – or at least my numerous favorites, which include both Destination Unknown and The Seven Dials Mystery.

    What do you think of Christie’s Destination Unknown? I’ve only read it a couple of times and it has been awhile so I remember very little about it. I love how you were able to adapt to the new bed! I’m starting to want a new mattress but I don’t think we are going up in size. I hope you are having a wonderful week!

      I really enjoy Destination Unkown. It’s more of a spy novel or adventure novel than a mystery, but it’s enjoyable, and I really like the main character.
